Default H3 ABS Module

OK, so it appears this has to be replaced.

And it has to be done by the dealer as my shop says they have some tool that is needed to program it.

Apparently these things give out over time.

Any ideas?

Via the dealer it is $1400.

Find a new shop and post the codes.
If you want to throw parts at it, don't go "Via the dealer" 25939761

My ABS and traction system is acting up too, do you think there would be any "quick fix" things that could be causing it such as blown fuses or would I have to pay that full amount as well.

Per them, ONLY the dealer can program it, etc.

Is this true?

If not, I don't mind replacing it at $300 for the part, but not at $1400.

Thanks

A few months back, my shop had the dealer clean the connections, that worked for 1 day.

Not sure what you are getting, but in my case it is this crunching, plus the flashing on dash of the ABS failed, etc.

When I can, it is pulled over, turned off, then back on, sometimes it goes away.

Other times it does not happen for days, then other times it is there every day.

So the more I research this, it appears it does need programming by someone who has a Tech 2 system.

No idea what that is and if it can only be found at a GM dealer.

UPDATE, so looking around this Tech 2 (in the form of a Tech 2 Deluxe Kit) costs on average $5K, so I can see why a smaller shop might not have it. Plus it requires a subscription (SaaS). Trying to see what the install of the module itself entails, and then see what it might cost for a dealer to simply program it.

UPDATE 2: Can get it from Amazon (free prime delivery) for $293.99 +sales tax. Dealer quoted the part price at $700.00. Nuts.

From them:

"THERE WAS NO PENDING CODES BUT WHEN MECHANIC GOT THE COMPUTER ON AND DROVE THE CAR AND CHECK READINGS FOR ABS ON AND OFF ABS SYSTEM WILL GO ON LEAN MODE WHICH MEAN WON'T COMMUNICATE WITH SYSTEM AND CAUSES THE ABS LIGHT COME ON AND OFF"

Does that make any sense to you?

"Limp mode". Park it, keep engine running, scan for codes.
