You need a manual on/off switch. So if you have to get into deep water you can shut it off to stop it from turning on while the fan blades and/or motor may be in the water....... then.... you have to remember to turn it back on.

I am taking that one step further, by doing a 3 position rocker, when in the center position the fan runs as normal controlled by the temp sensor (with 2008s & up that would be controlled by the PCM through the tuning patch), then the "on" position will manually turn on the fan, and the 3rd position will shut if "off".
