Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
Nube to the forum, I have an 06 H3 and 175K miles.
I am getting an interment low oil light when coming to a stop and wanted to add a gage for a while to check the pressure i am unsure if i can add the sensor connection where this plug is. Im unsure whats under it.
Also attached the window sticker for the rig as i still have it.
TY
You could just change your oil pressure sensor and if that was the problem (and they often are the problem) you won't get the CEL. The H3 sensor for the I5s is a switch, if it has pressure above a set/predetermined amount the light stays off. If it senses lower than that, it sends a command to illuminate the light. It sees the oil pressure as good or not good.
The Torx bolt (Plug) you are referring to is where the oil bypass valve is located. Sort of like a dime width tootsie roll. It is in there via a close tolerance fit, just needs a yank to come out.
Do not run the engine without a new one in its place, or a delete plug if you can find one to fit. You want to run an oil pressure gauge from an adapter Tee fitting that will allow the OEM Oil Pressure Sender to still be used and add a pressure gauge sensor to be added.
Run a search, there were a few others that added an Oil Pressure Gauge. One thread mentioned the thread size etc....
If you decide to do it, take some pics and share some details.
I have an 09 Alpha, to see oil pressure I just need to scroll and look at my scan gauge 2. That does not work for the I5s as I explained they have an oil pressure sender/switch, it does not read a variable amount.
