Default Low Oil Pressure when at Idle

I was sitting in the drive through after a 20 minute drive the other day and the next thing I know the truck is chiming repeatedly at me, the red Oil light in on and the DIC read "OIL". I was at 75% on the temp gauge (OBD read 217) and knew I had been driving kind of hard. While I was sitting in the drive though, it kept going on and off, like I was right at the threshold of the pressure gauge. Once I could I shut the truck off and let it sit for about 20 Minutes, started it up and was good to go until I reached my destination and it came back on. I got my oil changed and it seemed to go away until yesterday when it happened again after I had been idling in a parking lot for about 20 minutes. The Dealership wanted $150 to diagnose it when I got the oil changed so I figured I'd turn here first. Tried to search it but the words "Low" and "Oil" were "either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search"

It's an 06 Adventure Lux with 165,000 Miles. Any help is highly appreciated!

Have you checked the oil level. Just because you "had it changed" I do not get that warm and fuzzy feeling that whoever performed that simple service for you did it correctly.

What kind of oil? Synthetic vs Dino?

Start with the simple stuff, check the level after the vehicle cools for 10-15 minutes.

You may have to get it scanned to see what it is doing, but you could have a bad sensor, or a dirty/frayed connection to the sensor. The H3 sensor does not read PSI, it is just a switch, when below a certain preset amount, it grounds to light the idiot light on the dash.

New member here but check out this forum all the time. I had this oil issues just last week. Replaced the oil sensor and still did it. Ended up replacing the wire harness to the sensor and haven't had any issues since. Hope that helps.

I took it to the Local GM Dealer to have it changed so I am unsure of the exact type of oil, however on the paperwork they said the levels on all my fluids were good to go. I've got an OBD II scanner and didn't receive any codes when the light was on. It happened again yesterday in a parking lot and I was able to bump it into neutral and rev it a bit and the light went immediately off. If it was a faulty sensor, would it be behaving the same way every time it acted up? If it does need a new harness, how difficult would that be to replace and where would I go about finding one? Thanks Guys!

Looking at a work order is one thing.

Popping the hood and actually checking the oil level is another.

Too much work for you to check the oil??? It should be done regularly, like every other gas fill up.

Good luck.

Mine would only come on after driving it for a while and then came to a stop. Once the RPM came up the light would go off. Didn't show a code or anything. First I changed the sensor, still did it, but the sensor had oil in it. So changed out the sensor wire and haven't had any issues since.

Default H3 Oil Pressure Sensor

I have an 07 H3 w/3.7 It seems to be idling at 600-700 is this low? It seems lo but sometimes the low oil pressure will start flashing and dinging rev engine and it will stop most of the time couple of times it had to reed really high to stop it and sometimes it sounds like a lifter is stuck or something lightly knocking not like a rod bearing though not sure wanted some ideas what to do to prevent

This sounds like the oil pick up tube inside oil pan might have fallen off and that might be why your having these issues

If the pickup came off the engine would have starved for oil and be ruined by now. No amount of RPMs will help. Even with the full 5.5 quarts of oil and .5 from the starved oil filter.

Check the sensor for resistance or just replace it and the plug/wires that connect to the sensor (wiggle them and see if the light goes off. Takes 2 people).

Did you ever find a solution for this? I’m experiencing the identical issue just as you described it.
Thanks
