Do the oem ***** have any spring inside the shaft? Or is it somehow spring loaded? Mine does not push the button all the way out now to unlock the key

 

Yes there is a spring, I never needed to take mine apart since it still works perfect. Here's a video showing removal to replace the boot:

 

Thanks hummerz, turns out i needed to oil the shifter button. Now it works great and my key doesnt get stuck in the ignition

 

It is not an uncommon problem experienced in older vehicles. Dirt, dust, crud, coffee, etc... get in the button area and gum it up. Luckily, it is an easy fix, clean, lubricate, and things are good again.
