I would not say the H3 with 35's is gutless. It is faster than the FJ40 and International Scout I owned and gets me where a H3 with 31" tires will not go. Compared to the 33's that came with it it is only slightly slower not the big deal you make it to be. I did not buy the H3 to go fast, if i want that I'll drive my Z06. I bought the H3 to go way off the trail and there is no need or reason to be racing around in unknown terrain. If you want to get further off road get the 35"s and live with the SLIGHT trade-off of power loss. it is nothing that will be a factor off road. If needed jsu use the transfer case in low.
IMO the positives of 35"s definitely outweigh the negatives.

This is where I have to ask what HUMMER was thinking with this stupid inline 5 to begin with? If they were looking out for my well being, they would have thought more about putting an engine with some ummpph in it! Comparing costs of the Alpha to an I-5, it doesn't look like it would really be much more to have built it with a bigger engine to start with. They could have pulled off a bigger engine for minimal cost.
I just mounted my 315's this weekend after coming off of the Bridgestone 285's. What a huge difference in ride improvement. I can't say that I actually feel any loss of power, as I have finally learned to quit trying to dig into something that isn't there, so I've scaled back on trying to make it move. Where it impresses is in the dirt. Once I get it there, it's completely in it's element, and I have no need to make it go fast at that point.
No regrets at all going to the bigger tire, other than I should have done it on day two after buying the truck.....

Also remember with bigger tires more weight in the front- very "FIRST" time offroading with my 315 KM2's I broke a tie rod- just getting onto the trail so I suggest get the bigger tie rods keep the original ones for spares.... You'll love the difference...and yes - performance on the freeway- turn off your air when trying to get it up for speed and you will get a power burst... _ H3 Turbo...lol....otherwise just enjoy the ride....

Tink, we've seen you're You Tube videos and know what it means for you "just getting on the trail"! I don't think upgrading to 1 ton tie rods would be sufficient for your truck for very long. Does the phrase "tread where others fear to follow" mean anything???
I do agree about the turbo A/C setup. Most of the time I do just enjoy the ride once I get on the freeway. Lord help me if I need to slow down and then speed back up!

Did you know that Tinkerbell is known as the "Fearless Fairie"...lol

When in doubt gas it out- unless of course you are on the freeway trying to pick up speed....feels good about 65 then woosh, you got to start all over...poor little 5 inline....I still think its worth having the bigger tires.
" I literally was at the trail head on my first time out with my new 315's and my tie rod broke" had to get our welder from home run back out there weld it, get it home and then order the part !

Thats the point i was trying to make. I bought my H3 in march. there was no need to run the A/C in wisconsin up until last week when temps were in the 90's. When i turned on the A/C and attempted to get on the Hi-way, i was like "what the F--K! Your Kidding. i had to floor it to get up to 65. I have never experienced that with a veh. now multiply that with tires 2" larger than 33's, more weight and rolling mass. Using low 4wd to accelerate aint happening. I will be the first to say 315's are on my list of mods. however until Superchips or anothe Mfg. steps up to the plate with a Plug n Play Tuner for the 5cyl., its not happening.

I have bfg Km2 in this exact size. It does okay when I am unloaded but with your extra people and gear it might not want to cruise in overdrive hardly at all. I love my truck and the way it looks but its actually quite a difference from the factory tires in the power department.

I went with the 305/70-16 KM2's. Just a bit wider and tire description height reads 33.1". I don't off road much and don't want to sacrifice any more power from the 3.5L in my 06.
