3.5 to 3.7 swap questions -emissions and oxygen sensors etc
Hello from California, the place of many restrictions.
Im working on swapping the 3.7 liter into my 2006 H3 which came with the 3.5l
has anyone in Ca successfully done this?
And passed smog checks?
is the exhaust manifold/header from the 06 reusable on the 07? This might be the culprit of the author in the 355nations thread when he mentions a third o2 sensor. The 06 computer doesn’t know it’s there. On motorcycles we just put a brass plug in when they are removed.
Do you know of a good shop in the Los Angeles or nearby counties?
Ive read several of the detailed discussions on 355nation on the process and one seemed to throw a wrench into the idea due to CA emissions/smog check requirements. https://www.355nation.net/threads/3-7-engine-swap-complete.43667/
I saw a post saying that the 2007 engines had 3 oxygen/lambda sensors and the 2006 only has 2. One on the exhaust manifold and one post catalytic converter in the rear. One post Mr tokned he didn’t swap and just left the second upstream sensor not hooked up.
If the 2006 computer isn’t looking for the 3rd O2 sensor, will there be a code generated or error?
im just planning ahead to face dnevitabkd smog check. My smog guys said his computer likely wouldn’t even know a swap occurred. My other route is completely transferring the smog equipment from a sonar vehicle or welding in a bunghole for the third o2 sensor if there is one. If I can find a steel location and not the cast iron manifold.

if your engine did not use 3 and you are reusing your cats it should not care. plug off the 3rd hole. if the rear o2's act up a 1 meg ohm resister spliced inline with the o2 signal wire and a 4.7 UF capacitor on the harness plug side of the splice should smooth out the signal.
