Default 2007 Hummer H3 remote start issue

My 2007 H3 had the pass lock key issue that many have faced. I bought a new ignition switch to replace, but the previous owner had installed an Avital 4111 remote start system so I would always remote start it to avoid the 10 minute wait that would sometimes happen with the key. Battery died on the Avital remote and went I went to replace it, a part fell out of it. I ordered a new one, but it was going to take a few days to come in so I went ahead and changed out the ignition switch. Now the key start works fine, but the remote start no longer works.

With the remote start, the engine turns over, but does not start. It tries to start three times and then the security alarm on the dash blinks. I have to wait 10 minutes and then I can start it with the key.

I may have accidently reset the Avital module to factory default settings while trying to program the new remote.

Does anyone know if changing the ignition switch could have caused this and if so, is this something that I could get the remote start system to recognize? I'm not sure who installed the system since it was there when I bought it used.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm a new member, but I have spent a good bit of time researching this site for help. It is a great resource for Hummer owners.

Yes, your remote start was programmed to the ignition switch that you decided to replace, not the new replacement.

If you would have came here first we would have told you that you do not need to replace the ignition switch for Passlock failures, but instead clean the ignition switch and its connector.

Thanks for the information Doc. I guess I will have to spend some money and have the remote start unit reprogrammed.

The problem with that is you need the programmer unit that the seller (stereo shop, auto electrics ...) had because otherwise it may be a one and done program through the key or remote start unit itself. Example: The prior owner had or installed it in say 2011. It is now 15 YEARS later, nobody is likely to have that dinosaur programmer thing to do your program.

Clean and put back the old switch might be much easier.

Good luck.

My first thought after reading your comment was to put back the old switch, but I think I already threw it away. Good news is that it has been starting great with the key.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
