Default 2006 H3 oil light

Sorry if this has been discussed before ( which I’m sure it has ) I just need help! I just picked up a 2006 H3 with 125,000 on it. Had the oil changed with 5W-30. Saw the dip stick full. Drove about 100 miles and the red oil can light came on and flashing when I came to a red light. Turned off after taking off and has come on more frequently. Checked the dip stick and it’s dry! No oil leaks at all and no smoke from exhaust. I added 2 quarts and the light turned off only to come back on 30 miles later. 😡any ideas or suggestions?

You have to plug in scanner and read error codes to know specifics.

Could be oil pressure problem, oil pressure sensor problem.
Could be something more serious.

If you see red warning light, better to stop driving your car and start diagnostics.

If money is tight, cheapo 5$ Bluetooth scanners from china works 1 times out of 5, and gives you general idea what is wrong.

Cool

What's your rpms at idle? Mine recently had this problem and the result was that my idle was dropping below 500rpm. I cleaned my throttle body and MAF, RPMs went back to normal, above 500, and no more oil light. There was a lot of build up of crud in my throttle body. It happens over time, even if you use fuel treatments.

So there’s no check engine light on. I have a scanner but shows no faults. Also seems the motor has gone through 4 qts in 300 miles?!?? Does that makes sense? Oil dipstick is dry. It does sit a little higher in the front than the back

If it lost 3 more qts then you have a serious problem somewhere. Especially if it's not leaking on the ground. Check your coolant and see if there's oil in your coolant. Otherwise I'm not sure where it's going.

The H3 I5 takes just under 6 quarts of oil.
Just because the "oil change guy" showed you a dipstick does not mean it was full either.

OK My Oil light has come on briefly 2 times the last 2-3 weeks. 2006 H3 with inline 5 cyl
Engine is running fine, oil level is fine. Oil/filter changed about 2K miles ago.
118Kmi

Brought it to a reputable mechanic who has done work on the vehicle before. He said he can change it but that its probably not the problem. Said he had the same vehicle come in with the same problem. They changed the Oil Pressure sensor and the Oil pump- didn't fix the problem. So I said wtf was the problem? he said didn't know- he said some problem with these engines not holding oil pressure up in the engine.
I said to change it just the same. I gotta start somewhere lol

I see other people with the problem, but no resolution both recent and years ago. Anyone get thru this problem?
I'll update with my results after I get it back

Thanks- Albert
