There never was a "recall" for the defective valve seats. What they did with 2006s was extend the miles warranty to 100K, you are years and miles passed that. So it doesn't matter whether you are in the vin# range or not as far as GM is concerned. Requesting to get it re-diagnosed translates into, take it to a dealer so that can charge the bejusus out of you and maybe we can sell you parts at top markup.

If your plugs are anything other than direct replacement ACDelco, that's a problem for the I5s.

As I posted years back in 2009:
"The S/Ns affected is any 2006 H3 lower than 287591 .... the first one started with 100,001, your truck build date will be Nov. 06 or earlier. Not all have the problem, but some could. The head issue affected not only the I5, 4s and 6s were subject to the same issues. Call GM with your vin# and build date (from the sticker in the driver's door jam) and ask.

Just in case you're gonna say, wow they didn't even build that many 3s? The VINs are assigned at the same shreveport plant building Colorados and Canyons. Their VIN sequence unit #s are mixed in and subject to the same TSB re: the head/valve issue.

The extended warranty was for very early 2006s, those with the 3.5L L52 Motors built before March 31, 2006. That is not to say some 3.7L LLRs have never had a valve or head issue. All the Atlas motors built since 4/1/06 have the new hardened valve seats."

Good luck, hopefully you can make something work out.

I had it diagnosed by Plains Tire and GM is requesting that it get re-diagnosed by my local GM service center.

Last six of my vin# 102629
Never ask a tire changer to diagnose/check your engine. Take it to a reputable automotive repair service center. Most have master techs on site, that don't change tires, yet can do proper testing/diagnosis to find the cause, including wet compression test. Btw, did you perform any services recommended to clean carbon deposits?

Went into the tire shop for a simple task and got more than I bargained for. I would agree, never take to a tire shop for diagnosis and they lost my business today, let me explain:

Since my last post:
-I have replaced all of the plugs (Bosch Iridium and second set since Sept)
-I replaced all of the coil packs (3 out of 5 had corrosion and bad seals, allowing moisture in, they also had a burnt smell to them).
-Replaced battery, installed stingers
-cleaned out the TB with the Seafoam treatment (entire can)
-added one can of Seafoam high-mileage treatment to the fuel tank (did not add anything to the crankcase).
-ran the fuel out and filled up with a full tank of top tier gas from the c-store.
-pulled the cam solenoid and cleaned it (screens were ok)
-pulled the PCV hose off the port, cleaned the port and hose connection (suction seems normal).
-Cleaned the air filter, cleaned the MAF, also pulled the MAP, and cleaned.

After all of that, I am left with two CE codes, the P0300 (random misfires) and Cylinder 4 misfire. Car running MUCH MUCH better, but still a rough idle and intermittent CE light (due to random misfire). Of course, it also runs smoother when up to operating temps. This morning it was -5deg (cold Wyoming morning) and she fires right up, but there's that rough idle. I decide enough is enough, only thing left to check is the intake manifold bolts. I sure am not doing that in this cold weather so I gave it to Plains to torque. The bolts as I had mentioned were in fact backed out. While they had it in their care, they noticed it was still misfiring and assumed that's why I had brought it to them. Without contacting me, they proceeded with the compression and leak down test. Luckily, they only charged me for the labor to tighten up the bolts. The result was 50psi on Cylinder 4, and 135-140psi on the remaining cylinders.

Pull out of Plains and vehicle barely drives off their lot (brand new code surfaces). U1016 - Lost communications with ECM/PCM/VCM. Wow!! Luckily I keep my reader with me, analyzed and cleared the code three times (it's now confirmed), so I'm headed back to Plains. "Hey man, you forget to hook something back up?" He starts poking around and I immediately notice a loose oil cap, loose radiator cap, and the battery tube disconnected from the battery box. This might be simple, but it also showed me the care that my vehicle would receive from Plains. They effectively lost my business.

Plains is the last place I would ever go for a repair, but I figured they could handle the intake bolts as they are the least busy around here and I wanted quick service. This afternoon I called around for a few competitive quotes and quickly realized that all of the local mechanics are relying on one machine shop. I got in touch with Precision Machine and they asked "Oh yeah, you must have that '06 Hummer? Yeah, Plains called us on that earlier and asked what to do." Precision Machine says "ok, we don't normally take in cars and are about a month out but we can squeeze you in. Call us if you want to schedule." At this point, I am probably just going to take it to them as it seems like my best option. They quoted $1500-$2000 for the valve job and work on the head.
