Default Transmission/ Extended warranty H3 ‘07 119k

I bought it with 90k, At what point do I get concerned about the transmission. I’m thinking of buying an extended warranty like Carshield, it’ll cost me about $100 a month but would cover drivetrain and all electrical etc. $100 deductable

Recommend repair warranty?

thanks

100bucks is cheap, for a good extended warranty plan. Is that the gold plan?

Take the $100 month and invest it into the SP500 index and Ill bet when/if the transmission fails, your investment/acct value will more then able to replace the cost of a transmission. I think its a been hedge bet unless the transmission is slipping now.

Curious what your quote was for platinum plan? May be worth the extra money? Carshield plans

NOT JUST THE TRANSMISSION!
First off, I have never purchased an extended warranty on anything, and I would never recommend anyone to purchase an extended warranty on a vehicle that is less than 10yrs/100k miles. With a 14yr old vehicle, over 100k miles, getting an extended warranty pays for itself. I've dealt with many extended warranty companies in the past, never had a problem getting the money for my customers. Example, customer brings their vehicle to me, gives me the extended warranty plan and asks for a complete inspection on the vehicle. After inspection, I check with the plan to see what's covered, then contact the warranty company for approval/payment on needed repairs. I then contact the customer for the repairs that are needed, yet not covered, and they make the decision, to repair the additional. I've had many customers that had thousands$$$ in repairs, and only had to pay the deductible. The key is to find a reputable shop that offers free "complete/safety/road trip" inspections and doesn't have a problem dealing with an extended warranty company.

I have never done an extended warranty on anything either. Been driving more than 45 years, 100+ vehicles, never needed one yet. Maintenance is key.

My father ran the local Buick Dealership for years, extended warranty plans were money makers for them, rarely pay out anywhere near what they take in. Ran a boat dealership even longer, same thing. If you can't figure out which end of a screw driver to use to turn a screw, get a warranty.

READ the owner's manual, Trans Fluid 100K miles if in "normal service" and every 50K miles if in "severe service".

Severe service= Change automatic transmission fluid and filter if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions: − In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 90°F (32°C) or higher. − In hilly or mountainous terrain. − When doing frequent trailer towing. − Uses such as found in taxi, police, or delivery service.

If you are unsure when the fluids were last changed, then do it now. Trans & filter (add a drain plug while the pan is off for future changes), Transfer Case and both Diffs.

Beyond maintenance, "this is not your father's oldsmobile". Did you check the "parts covered" on the plat plan 2page pdf I posted above?
Being a 14yr old vehicle alone takes its toll on suspension, brake system hydraulics, steering system, seals/gaskets, electrical, etc. If I performed a complete inspection on a 2007 Hummer H3 with 119k miles, I'm sure I could find thousands$ of needed repairs that are covered under the platinum plan.

Good points, I will check if fluids were changed at 100k. I use my H3 as a second vehicle, mostly weekend city driving
