I HAVE A 2006 SUT..AND AM DISTURBED ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU CAN ACTUALLY TOW WITH THIS BEAST...
I TOW A GRAND DESIGN 320 TOY HAULER THAT WIEGHS IN AT 15,0OO LBS, WITH A FIFTH WHEEL. I HAVE COIL SPRINGS WITH 1000 LB AIR BAG CAPABILITY. THE ENGINE IS THE ORIGINAL LS WITH SOME HEAD WORK AND A HIGH LIFT CAM DYNOING AT 725HP., AND I WENT THROUGH THE TRANS WHEN THE MOTOR WAS OUT, UPGRAGING TO HIGH PERFORMANCE DRUMS AND PISTONS ALONG WITH INCREASING THE PRESSURE BY ADDING A FEW DIMES TO THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE SPRING.
SO I'M SO TIRED OF HEARING THAT THE H2 DOESN'T HAVE THE SPIRIT TO TOW HEAVY LOADS.
BEEN FROM SOUTH FLORIDA TO THE GRAND CANYON AND BACK WITH ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER...
I am totally amazed your are pulling such a big rig. How do you get past the DOT inspections? One glance at the door pillar GVWR and your immediately busted? How are you keeping the trans from melting down as well. What did you do in the rear to re-enforce the frame, the back of an H2 SUT was not rated anywhere near half ton. This is amazing you were able to accomplished this and do it safely.
I have had two 2500HD's, a 2013 and 2019 and used to pull an Alpine and the Cougar 5th wheel. I remember how the much work was required to attached the 5th wheel hitch to the frame for proper weight distribution.
The SUT has a plastic bed liner over a very thin metal body, where did you find a custom setup that would transfer all that weight to the frame? All I can say is wow!
1st off, the above bed rails are bolted through the steel bed, yes but the 2 bolts on each end are attached to 3/8" L-brackets which are bolted and welded to the frame that has been reinforced top and sides, approximately 2 1/2' cut out on a water jet to mirror the frame from the '2,500 frame' back.
Not a big deal, now the rear suspension has air bags inside the coil springs along with air shocks that will accept 2,500 pounds of load without the height dropping 1". The truck has a factory tow package and when I had the transmission out to replace the leaking rear main Seal, I went through the tranny. Also Wilwood 16" brakes are installed. Just because the stock brakes on these H2's are to small and have gotten me I trouble more than once.
THE TRUCK BRAKES STOP THE TRUCK..THE TRAILER BRAKES STOP THE TRAILER..because the bed is so short, a Rese Sindwinder 20k pinbox is installed giving me just enough clearance but never 90 degrees but close.
now listen-up ..there is No limit to tow weight as long as you are towing your personal trailer, and not commercially for hire. And trailer weight below 26,000 pounds. As far as H2's GVWR, I'm going to attach a form that you bring to your tax collector and 'DECLARE GREATER GVWR' called... restickering..the new GVWR will be on the new registration which will cost a few dollars more per year..
