Where does the H2 store it Mileage info?
I was remembering wrong, could not find any information on what I said,
What I learned is the BCM gets the millage from the IPC EEPROM the one thing that appears has to match is the VIN stored within both modules, IPC & BCM. There are cluster repair shops that can pull the EEPROM and get the millage from it but it would need to be pulled from the IPC and a separate program used to pull the information.
Not much help for your cousin short term.

Well, one thing confirmed, the pinout on the 08 vs 05-07 cluster is totally different so that idea is a nogo. I may pull out my Xtools D9 Pro and poke around whats might be lurking in the BCM menu's.
Sorry to say my cousin lost out on the deal, the owner sold it to someone else who didn't care about the mileage or cluster. Its probably better for him as it spent most of its life in Maine and had some salt corrosion issues underneath.
I told him if he really wanted a reasonably priced H2 to consider 06 or 07, lots of them south of the salt line out there and a much greater number to choose from vs 08/09. Plus they are actually cheaper and easier to find parts for.
He said he really wanted an 08 or 09 for its collectability reason. But I pointed the 08/09 is more expensive to own, fix, drive an there are nowhere near as many of them in the salvage yards. This can be a real problem.
Finally for what its worth I really wonder if the 08 and 09 is all that more collectable especially when you consider how few Adventures and special edition H2's were made prior to the 08 model year that are desirable.
