2004 instrument cluster problem
Ive had this H2 a couple of years now and have had an intermittent issue with the cluster working not working since Ive had it, Assumed it was a ground issue up until now.
the mileage numbers recently started out acting weird changing into alien looking symbols while driving then correcting themselves, and then the final time the cluster worked, they did the alien symbol thing, went to triangles, then the cluster quit working completely.
Im thinking its probably the cluster but want to double check that a ground issue or a body module wouldn't cause this before I pull this cluster and ship it off and pay to have it looked at. Other than the mentioned glitches the cluster worked fine,
Thanks

search YT for "GM Instrument Cluster" and you'll find lots of videos, faults range from bad steppers, dry joints, bulbs and display issues.
Your approach is good and perhaps sending it off would be the way forward, providing the cost is reasonable. You will probably want to retain the mileage stored in the cluster, so It might be worth checking this point with the repairer.

If you do want to send it off - this youtuber does excellent work. I've sent a very problematic one off to him for repairs for a Silverado (which year for year uses the exact same cluster). Your mileage "should" be fine. It is stored in a chip in the cluster. Your cluster most likely needs some solder joints repaired but probably a good idea to have them go ahead and replace the stepper motors and backlighting (can opt to change the backlight color too). Not recommended since you cannot monitor things and the mileage will be slightly off but your H2 is also fine to drive a small amount while the cluster is out.

Thanks guys. I feel more comfortable now starting with the cluster since you tend to agree with my guess. Hopefully we are right lol
Im not gonna drive it with no cluster that would be the day the oil pump failed.
I'll update when I have new info. Thanks again.
