Transmission Substandard to Tow?
I am religiously searching for my first H2. I will be towing a 6500-7k lb trailer all over the USA. I’ve heard the transmissions could have issues or be “weak” especially in the 03 and 04 gen. Any thoughts? Can I do anything to “beef” up or prevent any future issues if I purchase an H2 with 130k plus miles?
Thanks y’all!

and make sure you know what the towing capacity is for the year model you’re buying. Early ones were only 6400lbs, some were 7k and the 08-09 are 8200. And yes the 6l80s in the newer ones are also garbage.
and please get a good trailer brake controller hooked up.

The biggest thing especially towing is heat. The factory cooling system for the trans is garbage. It’s ran through the radiator and can run well over 200 when towing. Your best bet is to add a truecool cooler and bypass the radiator cooler. At the end of the day buying a transmission sucks but 4l80s are not that crazy expensive for a trans and you should be able to swap the 4l60 for it.
