Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

If you operate the 4wd selection buttons you should hear the encoder motor operating and a clunk from down below. The selection you make should blink until the tcase actually shifts into that mode. If you get no activity you need to check the connections to the encoder motor, Look in the fuse center under the hood and check the following fuses: 4x4, TREC, ing 0.

Happy to hear Monster is stepping up and will give you a refund, hopefully the trans they are sending you isn't trash, but even with that said 4l65e's are cheap in a junk yard!

Well, here is the tough question to answer and depends on what your future plans are with your H2. Personally if I was in your position I would consider one of the following:

1. Easy way out, take it to your local GM dealer and have them install GM Good wrench Re manufactured transmission (I did this with my 06 and was very pleased with the results and warranty which is transferrable, a good choice if you wish to move to an 08/09)
2. If you have any aspirations of upping the horsepower/torque or even doing an engine upgrade consider a 4L80 conversion. This is a transmission you will never blow up. A great solution for the I never will sell my H2.
3. A 6L80 transmission, this is a major upgrade, a transfer case from an 08/09 will be required, a different cross member and when your done you will have 6 speeds, better performance and mileage but it still won't be as strong as a 4L80.

Let us all know what direction you wish to go in, we can all help sort this out for you.

If you wish to have the ability to run RWD only you will need a different transfer case. Check out ebay and junk yards, you can find a number of GM 2500/3500 trucks that had the combination of 4l80 and select able transfer cases. This way you won't have to get an adapter to go from the 4L80 to your stock transfer case as the spines are different.

One thing to keep in mind even if you go to RWD only the front hubs and axles will still be turning but not under power. To resolve this you will need to put a GM 2500 truck axle in your H2, this will require some fabrication both physically and electronics to make it fit and work properly. Some time back there was a company that offered a conversion kit for the H2 to use a 4L80 transmission and included everything, you might do some web searches if you wish to go this route and only do a transmission swap. As far a the 4L80 is concerned for the most part it just a hopped up electric version of the old Turbo 400, its very easy to rebuild and most transmission shops can accomplish this without issue, usually a simple rebuild kit will do the trick.

As far as your comment about a different motor I assume your speaking of your stock LQ4 engine. The LQ4 6.0L engine is just about bullet proof and will go well over 200k with normal maintenance. There are a ton of things you can do to it to squeeze more performance out of it. I suggest you jump over to the LS1tech.com and LS1 forums for some good suggestions and help with that. Best of luck to you, sounds like your plate is now full!

That's an easy answer, NP-263HD, its a heavy duty 3/4 ton transfer case with a 32 spline input that a 4L80 will directly bolt to it. It is also an electronically controlled unit so it will be easier to interface with your existing transfer case control.
Another consideration, Keep in mind the 4L80 is a number of inches longer so you will be relocating the mounting. You can forget re-using your original front driveshaft it will be to short anyway.

Ok let me see if I got this right..I need to buy a 4L80 transmission that's going to bolt on just like the 4l65e to the stock motor, then get a NP-263HD, transfer case with a 32 spline input am I going to have to replace any electrical plugs or can I use what I have now? Also im going to have to relocate the support crossmember am I going to have to replace the drive shaft also?

You need a 4L80e (or 4L90e) 4WD trans, this will directly to a NP-263HD transfer case, it WILL NOT however bolt onto the your stock BW4484 without an adapter. You cannot just buy a 4l80/90 from a 2wd truck and unbolt the tail cone it wont work. The output shaft on the 4wd version is different.

The details: The input to a pre-08 H2 is only 27 splines and the 4l80e trans has 32. As I mentioned before there was a company that offered an adapter kit to do this. The 08/09 H2 had a 32 input spline BW4484 case which you could use but these can be difficult and expensive to find. Gavin on this forum had one for sale but IO think it will require a rebuild.

Your better off with the NP-263HD. You can install it, put it in the 2wd mode and go forever without worrying about the T-Case blowing up.

And for what its worth if your driving around your H2 with the factory transfer case in the standard AWD mode and not 4wd lock mode your killing it.

One thing you might consider is to contact Predator in California for any help with parts or options. They also offer upgrade and installation options for what your asking about, https://predatorinc.com/
