Transmission only shifts manually.
Yup, you must clear the Transmission Adaptive Pressure (TAP) information using a Tech 2 or MDI-2 GM tool when a new or rebuilt trans is installed. This will erase and begin the process of the transmission to perform a "shift adapt" and to begin to rebuild the tables in the ECM/PCM.
On another note, wow that's tough on the eyes.

Nice truck,
the TCM wont stop the trans from being shifted into gear by placing the shifter into drive. while it is recommended you reset the preset tables back to new settings after trans work or replacement is performed it is not required to get the trans to shift when placed in drive, either a full manual valve body was installed in the trans, the spool is stuck or limited movement, the shift cable or lever has failed or is not installed correctly or the trans has an internal mechanical issue.
what does it do if you place the shifter in the other selections, R, 3, 2?
My thoughts on what might be the issue,
Neal
