Hi I had the same problem on my 04 H2. If you take a Phillips screwdriver and take off the plastic panel underneath the steering column there is a switch you can push that will allow the key to shut off and be removed. This is a pain but works. Then mark the spot on the back of the plastic panel where the key release button is and drill a 1/2” hole. Then you can reinstall the panel. Note: You will need to carry a small tool to push up through the hole in the panel every time you want to get the key out of the ignition. What was mentioned in the last post is the real problem broken wires on the shifter leaver in the center console.
