Strange clunk noise
Hello everybody!
Hummer H2 2007 6.0 with circa 80k miles.
I have this strange noise coming from the lett wheel. No noise in P or R. When you put in D and start move the car almost every time there’s this sound. When driving it goes faster but often goes away alone… sometimes disappear even when you start slow…
mechanic says that could be candlesticks and that maybe the engine is going withh 7 cylinders… to me sounds like a bushing issue somewhere…
anybody have an idea? I will stop the car after the 23 of this month to check and hope fix.
thanks everybody, ciaooo

Check the front Drive shaft U Joint.
Might also be an exhaust leak on the drivers side exhaust manifold.
Possible lifter tick but you would hear that also when just idling and not moving. Also, I don't buy the running on 7 cylinders, the engine sounds to smooth

I have an handcrafted exhaust system but we cutted all the old after the lambda system, but anyway if there was a problem there I should hear even in P or N mode no?
The weird thing is that going in reverse there’s not any noise 😳
really strange….
Though its not very common I have seen bad U joints make noise going in one direction but not the other. Depends on a number of factors, what is actually failing on the joint, the load, etc. Either way its easy to determine if there is a problem, simply shift the transfer case into neutral, jack up the front and spin the shaft. At the same time check out the half shafts for torn boots or any issues. You usually don't see these type of drive line issues on H2's until you get at LEAST 100k on the clock (unless you live in the snow belt or the vehicle has been run through or sat in high water).
If the U joints are bad they are an easy fix, so too are replacing half shafts. One comment on exhaust leaks, sometimes they are difficult to hear at idle and requires the engine to have a load to notice it. You can place the vehicle in drive and hold your foot on the brake and add a little bit of gas (powerbraking) and you should hear the exhaust leak if you have one. Do this cold, many time the exhaust leak cannot be heard when hot (expanding metals actual seal up the leak)
