Spare Tire Carrier
#4
Those Monroney labels generated by third party vendor, like the one shown above, are often wrong.
If I remember correctly, but do not quote me, the rear tire carrier did come as part of certain group packages in early years.
I believe it could also have been ordered as a stand-alone option on earlier models, but not 100% sure anymore.
In the later model years (newer ones), (most/all?) had the tire carrier feature.
Because an interior tire plus a 3rd row seat ate up most of the cargo space.
It was a stupid idea for GM to put it inside the vehicle. Giant vehicle, no interior cargo space.
You will also see newer H2s with an interior-mounted spare, as some people reverted their H2 back to the old way.
Because the tire carrier is a pain to swing open all the time.
You really need to see the build-sheet (any GM parts counter can run off a copy for you), to see what that particular VIN came with .

2003 to a percentage of 2005; Hummer H2's had interior spares. Dealer's were sourcing an aftermarket spare tire carrier and installing them as a dealer option during those years. In the 2005 model year, GM introduced the exterior bumper mounted spare carrier officially as a standard option. The carrier was manufactured by a company called SMA and built them through the 2009 model year.

SMA Spare Tire Carrier May Rattle Over Rough Surfaces, T-Pin Lock Difficult to Remove (Install Revised Latch Isolator and Verify Installation of Anti-Rotation Bolts in Hinge Bracket)
2003-2004 HUMMER H2
Important
In the interest of customer satisfaction, it is absolutely imperative that the revised latch isolator kit be installed to all Stinger Mac Accessories (SMA) rear mounted tire carriers you may have in stock. If the nylon insert in the latch cavity is red, it must be changed. The revised latch isolator is black. Refer to the kit number and instructions below. Also, be sure to use the anti-rotation bolts supplied with the tire carrier kit when mounting the hinges on all future installations. These two issues lead to rattle concerns.
Condition
Some customers may comment that the tire carrier rattles when going over rough surfaces or that the T-pin Lock is difficult to remove.
Cause
This condition may be due to the tire carrier frame contacting the latch bracket.
Correction
Follow the service procedure below to correct this condition.
A revised latch isolator is available as P/N 80112. Install it by removing the two fasteners retaining the RED Bumper to the latch bracket. Place the new latch isolator in the opening of the latch bracket and secure it using the supplied fasteners. Installation of the latch isolator will also promote smooth operation of the T-pin lock. It may also be necessary to re-align the tire carrier frame to ensure smooth operation of the T-pin.
In addition to Step 1, verify installation of the anti-rotation bolts in tire carrier hinge bracket. If anti-rotation bolts are not installed, please do so at this time per the SMA Tire Carrier Instructions.

Thanks for the info @clsimmon . I tried to google SMA (Stinger Mac Accessories) in Tempe, AZ, Troy MI, and Nevada. Nothing comes up. Guessing they are out of business?
"Ok, I learned from another expert the old style SMA carrier has a large bushing in the pivot. It was made wrong and without grease grooves. SMA (the supplier who happens to be out of business now because of Gov't seizure) no longer makes them."

It gets more interesting when you search SMA. Won the SEMA GM DESIGN AWARD, in 2003? Recently sold for $150K? For Sale: 2003 Hummer H2 in O'Fallon, Illinois
