Slight grinding noise from transmission area
We did cut open the filter. there was nothing in it. Nothing in the oil, and very very little in the pan. It has only been about 700miles since the replacing the engine components.
I tried searching for pump failures similar to this, but i have not found anything yet. Has anybody every seen similar? Where internally the gears of the oil pump is rubbing metal on metal? This was the GM oil pump for LQ4.

Glad to hear the pan and filter was clean, sounds like you dodged a bullet. Not 100% positive about this but I think Melling makes the oil pumps for GM engines. I know they have a plant in Mexico and one in China, I think all of the finish work on most of the stuff they make is in the USA. With that said sounds like you just got one that was out of spec and it slipped through the crack. I would give Summit racing a call and see what they can get you, its sucks to dump a hundred or so on a factory pump just to find out its no good. Depending on where the pump came from you might have some recourse there.
I used Melling pumps for over 45 years and never had a bad one but there's always a first time.
