Thats how I tested trying out the white in the lettering on my center caps. Used the old style plasti-dip (liquid in a can) and used a syringe and filled the letters on the center caps with that. Liked the way it looked and left it - a month later several were peeling. So I picked the rest out and filled them with white epoxy paint.

Plastidip is also a good way to test a look before committing to something more permanent.

I plastidipped my grill, emblems, mirrors, door handles and rear bezels 3 years ago. I wasnt sure how it would stand up to our winters. The first problem i had was with the grill and mirrors. Bugs would chip it. Make sure it is applied thick and you wont have this problem. I started peeling the grill and in 1.5hrs i had about 10" cleaned off. If you apply it thick it is also easy to remove. I just took some acetone on a rag and smoothed out the curled edges. It just kind of shrinks back. Be sure not to leave it on too long though. I then re- sprayed the grill right overbthe old stuff with a bunch of coats. It has held up great and you cant even tell. Definately an easy mod and you cant really ruin any thing as everything can be reversed.
