Performance Air Intake Systems
Good grief what a thread. Everyone is different, biggest MPG gain is going to be using your foot, getting rid of excess weight and drag and maintenance. On long trips I air my tires up more for less rolling resistance, remove my racks if I don't need them and have done the synthetic fluid switch. Both seem to help, not big but maybe 0.5-1 MPG.
I have also done long tube headers (OBX with high flow cats), gibson single exhaust and K&N oiled intake system. Also a diablo custom tune by Diablew. All seemed to make a huge difference in throttle response and at speed the truck seems to run at a lower RPM to maintain the same speed, thus using less gas. However, it sounds awesome, so I like to hear that, thus more gas and less mileage. It also seems to tow significantly better, not MPG wise but acceleration and passing wise.
the few times I am gentle with my H2 I have seen my best MPG, right at 14 MPG going across the state of TN in the fall without AC on, no racks on top, tires at 42 PSI and the windows up (except the rear since mine is a SUT) with 87 octane gas from Shell. Yes I'm that specific. And that was all 100% interstate driving literally driving from one pump to the next about 375 miles apart.
So mileage is all the the foot/eye of the driver/beholder.

. I guess the only forum were 1mpg/1Hp more or less is discussed is on the Hummer forums ..
thats why we are like nothing else
Im glad to hear your report about the 100 hwy trip . Im gping in a 3000 interstate trip in 1 month . 12.5 - 14 mpg is what Im wanting.
same no AC , over inflate tires , change fluids for synthetics
rsmith, really good & Accurate write up! I mean, Everything you said is pretty much rite on! Only thing about airing the tires up on the road trips is it Doesn't ride quite as smooth but it's just swapping out one thing for the other! What is so Hilarious to me is the DA places that Try & sell you these $69 chips & say they're going to Add something like 60HP & also increase your gas mileage like 6-10 MPG! HOW in the world could ANYBODY fall for something so Ludicrous! I mean REALLY! People, Extra HP DOESN'T Come that CHEAP! JMO!
The whole resistor in the MAF gimmick has been around for years. I even fell victim to it when I was younger many many years ago. They do absolutely nothing and can actually hurt gas mileage or even worse mess with the MAF.
When I had my GTO many guys would buy more responsive IAT sensors/thermistors so the MAF had a faster response to the change in intake air temperature. I saved all the links but never did it myself. I was still pretty skeptical.

Finally I found the way to increase the MPG to 40 ... Easy Not with AMps but with Volt
Yep Just add a Chevy Volt to the garage and Mpg is going UPPP

Got nothing better to do tonight

( cause I dont have a garage)
Spoken like a true rocket scientist.
Have you price silicone couplers made in the USA? How about all SS T Bolt clamps from Clampco? Typical cheapskate attitude with opinion. A single clamp or coupler is more than $10.
All you need to have at least 3.5" 16Ga. capacity CNC mandrel pipe bender which you can probably pick up used for about a hundred grand. Of course you have to have a shop to put the bender in, its only as big as a truck. Maybe you could just knock on Wolfe Aircraft's door an ask if they want to halt production to bend you up a couple sample "tubes".
Any clue what flow bench time is going for? It would be required so you can actually figure out how to tune your "tube".... that is if you were using tube instead of pipe.
Then you can pay for some dyno time and see which design actually performs the best.
Then again, you could probably affix a Pringles can with duct tape from point A to point B and slap a Chinese cone filter on the end and call it an intake.
Please do fill us in when you develop your $75 tube intake system, I'm sure it will be a true jewel.

The finish that came on mine cost more than $10....
Just put my airdoc on mine, and more than happy with the results. Could I have got away with getting something else equivalent but for less... perhaps. Maybe if i was mates with a guy who had a pipe bender or someone who was good at metal work. I have no absolutely no complaints with my purchase, or the cost of it, or the email service Doc was kind enough to provide as i had a few issues taking the seagull out (don't ask!).
Will it see me an increase in MPG ? possibly minimally.. does it make me smile yes (the noise is killer, and somewhere inside my head i think i've just improved some efficiency somewhere which is a nice thought)!
Is this an enthusiast car, of course... if i looked at this with my sensible hat on, then i wouldn't be rolling an H2, hell i probably wouldn't be rolling an SUV!
