Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

You just described the whole problem. We raised a couple generations of snowflakes, they need to have our reversing windows because they haven't learned common sense and they'll put their head in the window while it's going up. Darwin surmised that the smart Will survive.... The idiots of the species will die early and not breed..... Which results in the DNA of the species improving every time. Now look what we did. We put fences up to keep people from leaning over the edge of a cliff to take selfies.... And these dumb people keep breeding and reproducing. Look around, it's becoming more obvious every year. It's allowed our DNA pool to become polluted and we're going backwards. Give me the power windows in the 1970s. I'm not stupid enough to put my head in the window when it's going up :-)

And I definitely don't like paying for all these safety features to protect the idiots in our species... God forbid one of our current teenagers ever gets behind the wheel of a 1965 mustang. They'll crush their head in the window, forget to take it out of gear to start the vehicle and it will lunge forward..... Oh wait, they've never even seen that thing we call a clutch! We even have to cover the entire engine these days with detective plastic to keep the younger generation who sticking their fingers in stuff :-) keep in mind we need the written warnings on the driver information display when something is wrong.... Because there are those who wear their bluetooth earbuds while driving and don't have a clue with that knocking noise is under their head.... Because they don't even change their oil until the computer tells them to ...LMAO

Two great posts. Thanks for info. I’m probably gonna just be lazy and try a new master switch. The new drivers sided mirror looked in such great shape that I do believe seller tested it. Hopefully new switch works.

with a tech 2 you can go into body control then the door modules to test up down left right. if it works there then the buttons might just need to get cleaned up since the h2 is notorious for A pillar leaks dripping onto the master switch.

As a young apprentice my peers turned me into being a "technophobe" that's to say someone who hates technology, I can still hear their old anecdotes
  • What good are microprocessors, name one thing they can be used for !
  • You can't beat the old moving coil meter, all this digital stuff is crap !
  • Transistors will never replace valves.
  • What good are LASERS, no use to anybody.
  • CAD systems are useless, I could have drawn that by hand quicker.
  • FET's are another one minute invention, they'll soon be obsolete.
  • They'll never make a computer that can play chess
History's littered with such comments, the truth is technology is constantly improving, evolving, becoming ever more accurate, with each new idea spawning thousands more .

Still I am attracted to the old stuff too, such as Beam Steam Pumps, steam locomotives and railways, ironclad ships yes they've been superseded, but recorded forever is the genius and creativity of their designers, a passion that is as strong today as it was way back then.

The suddenly one day came the realization that we no longer travelled around by horse and cart but we used automobiles ! This was a game changer, a eureka moment if you will, no longer was I blinkered and chained to the past

So instead of clinging to outdated technology, it became more productive to embrace new technologies and learn about them, engineering problems suddenly then turned into design opportunities.

Not understanding how a thing works doesn't make it wrong or bad, it's probably just different. So I spend my time wrestling with the Hummer's technology trying to bridge those gaps for the benefit of others.

Yes very often I'm too verbose I know, but leopards and spots.

Engines, transmissions, injectors etc I know very little about, not that they're uninteresting, but each to their own area of expertise.

Of course there are things on Hummers that drive us crazy such as blower resistors, air suspension, battery parasitic drain, DTC's, outside mirrors, wiper motors, EVAP, fuel pumps, impact sensors, heated seats, instrument clusters --- the list goes on and on.

I often go to vintage care shows here in the UK, what's interesting is that nearly every old car has an oil tray underneath it, yes the majority constantly leak but have to confess I find the smell of oil nostalgic !

The genius of those old inventers was amazing as are modern day inventors, it's all the same. Slide rules were great as were mechanical verniers, no batteries required, yet a calculator and digital caliper take accuracy to another level but you can have both, they're not mutually exclusive.

There's a lot to be said for keeping it simple...... Which equals reliability and ease of repair. They just went unnecessarily overboard with the electronics. I have a close to 30 year old refrigerator in my shop. We're already on our third refrigerator under warranty in 3 years in the house..... Because my wife wanted the one that was Wi-Fi enabled, let her know when we're running out of milk, keeps the time, and communicates with her smartphone. LOL, she's done with it next time it dies. For the same reason, I will never opt for the $800 tennis shoes that are Wi-Fi enabled and do similar functions..... Keep it simple, functional, inexpensive and reliable and you'll sell millions of them.

Funny.... The best selling mouse traps at the hardware store look exactly like the ones my grandmother used to buy 55 years ago.... And it's true, they work the best over and over.

I may actually laugh a little bit when the big EMP pulse arrives one day.... LOL, the only vehicles on the road will be the classic cars with no electronic modules.

Well finally got around to replacing master switch. Good news is it didn’t have to be reprogrammed.
and now all the lights on the switches work, bad news is drivers side mirror still does nothing but
fold in and out. Ugh.

The Driver's Door Module or DDM supplies all the voltages to the mirror motors so at least you've eliminated a big chunk of hardware. Some suggestions:-
  • Mirror wiring incorrect or faulty.
  • Mirror motor gears stripped
  • Mirror potentiometers seized
As mentioned before, the wires and motors can all be tested.

You said previously you couldn't hear the motors spinning, suggesting the mirror assembly has been taken apart and either a wire left unconnected or the wiring is wrong.

On my 2003, part of programming in the VIN number was to enable all the functions. Some functions worked out of the box, such as the windows up and down and the mirrors.

Check your courtesy light in the driver's door with the door closed.... It seems like most of them leave that light on 24/7 until it's programmed.

Not sure about the aftermarket modules though, from China. I suppose they could be plug and Play?

bought mirror used, in great shape, seller swore he tested it and it worked.
original mirror was glued in place so have no idea what worked before;
how can mirror wiring be wrong? all the plugs are keyed. like i said
it only folds. other mirror works great,
