I Rebuilt 4L65e H2 is a beast!
Hey Gentlemen, 3/4 clutch pack went a few weeks ago. Over the last 3 weeks have been working on rebuilding the 4L65e. I upgraded a lot of the internals with Sonnax parts. Sonnax drum, Kolone steels, GPZ clutch packs. Put new spicer u joints of the front drive shaft too. Buttery smooth. Vehicle continues to amaze me. Time to get behind the wheel and drive! 10,000 miles to 200K! If anyone rebuilds their Tranny in the future feel free to dm me & I can push you in the right direction.
im rebuilding the 6l80 in my 08 currently. Parts alone are $3700. What shocked me is how clean you have to be with everything. I had to rebuild two drums two different times because a single tiny hair got between the molded piston seal and the drum and leaked air.
it’s also really hard to clean the metal shavings out of the aluminum and the hard parts. The case was the hardest for me. The only thing that ended up working was ZEP industrial purple non diluted in a spray bottle. Soak the whole thing for 3-5 minutes and scrub with a toilet brush. Then rinse THOROUGHLY(zero will eat the aluminum if any is left on it) then hose it down really well with a couple cans of brake clean and liberally coat in wd40.
there’s really only 6 main assembly’s in the 6l that you pull out. 1234/35r drum, 456 drum, center support, output gear set, pump, and valve body. Then you rebuild those parts one at a time.
im almost done. Just have some bushing issues to sort out. Threw a sonnax kit with extra clutch in the 456 and the 35r and removed the waves. Also a zip kit for the valve body and pressure switch clean and rebuild.
I just bought a 2006 H2 with the 6.0L V8 about a week and a half ago. My son and I are working on it for what will eventually be his first car. Over the weekend we started experiencing an issue after replacing the brake lines coming off of the master cylinder where it will shift fine up to second gear but once it goes to hit third the engine over revs and basically won’t go any further. i’m trying to figure out if this is a issue with a torque converter or the clutch pack. With the repairs you performed where would you suggest I start? I’m very much a DIY person, but I am not a mechanic, although I am happy and willing to learn.
Here is a link to a prior post. This will get you started. Shoot me a dm.
Trans part list post
list isnt 100% but deff save you hours of research.
I can give you my # if you want to hop on a call can give you an idea on what your getting into.
thats awesome! Hope everything is well and reliable for you. I’ve heard of some guys having to take their first rebuilt trans back apart 5-6 different times to fix mistakes(yikes).

There will always be a servo on the side. It’s the sizes of the servi that increase the power band. Hold more fluid.
Corvette Servo is an upgrade. Likely, if that ls what your seeing the trans was rebuilt or someone installed it. May get lucky and see a date sticker on the torque converter. May indicate when rebuild accrued. Also check your carfax. Can get one .99 on etsy. May indicate what date and shop did rebuild. GL
