Default 4L65E Rebuild Tips with parts list

Hi Hummer H2 team, earlier this year I rebuilt my 4l65e on my 05 H2. The vehicle has been running incredible since the rebuild. First time rebuilding a transmission. No doubt more I could have done but i'm very happy overall. I'm getting the vehicle tuned by blackbear performace right now and expect even better results. Below is the main parts that I used. Note that the list isn't a 100% list. The parts below are the main upgrades I'd recommend. It will save you a significant amount of time in research. I went through prob 1000 posts on the LS1 boards going back to early 2000's.

You'll need a heat gun that goes up to around 200 degrees. I used an old gun for soldering mother boards. Wagnor gun. Heat up the bolts for 3-5 minutes before using the torx 50+ bit. If you don't heads will strip then you'll need to use a dremmel tool at crazy angles. Will turn into a real mess I promise.

Sonnax is the hardcore best of the best from my research when it comes to transmission parts.
The 3-4 input drum is what separates a good from great transmission rebuild. 77733-06KA.

The gm shell is trash and often break. Sonnax Sun Shell 7774902K is a must upgrade.

Corvette servo, Sonnax does have their own, however I did not use.

Heavy Duty shaft 74602-01K I reused my input shaft, was a little rough in some spots but worked. There is an option for an input shaft. I would do this next time just to save time.

TCC reulator 77754-04k

Transgo plate 46-PLT-96

Heavy Duty 2-3 Shift value 77754-41

Sonnax Band 77700-01K - gives drum a better squeeze for shifts

Plastic check ***** 10000-08 (Sonnax has a shift kit I would use next time HP-4L60E-01)

4L65E GPZ Friction Clutch Pack RGPZ-005 (Made for heavy vehicles) I used 8 Clutches and 7 Kolene steels GPZ105 in the 3/4 drum. You'll need to buy a few extra steels and I think 1 clutch can't remember.

I did buy the oversized servo pin 77787-03K, shifts were super harsh. Ended up reinstalling the stock pin.

Don't recommend using gm cork gasket on the pan. Will leak. I used a felpro. 24208576 GM filter.

24215111 is the latest valve pressure switch has a cover can stop some build up of particals.

Tru Cool max 40,000 Transmission cooler.

Doorman 265-811 Transmission pan, they had a bad run of pans but that's been fixed.

GM Reverse input drum - It will be black on the outside from the band squeezing it. Will need 100% to be replaced Part #24245624

Last minute tips. You'll need a press and random transmission tools. Picked up a few on amazon from street tools and they worked. nicks transmission on youtube has great info. Send him a coffee and he will send you tips. I don't recommend buying a pre built kit. Most of the gaskets you will never use. Would be much cheaper to buy parts individual. Also the kit I bought had fake gm pressure sensor switch and fake filter. I would watch transmission bench rebuild a few times and do your best to get all parts in order before rebuild. Go to sonnax site 4l60 or 4l65e section to look at parts. The 4l60,4l65e and 700R4 are part of the same family of transmissions.Any questions i'll do my best to put you in the right direction. GL!

I got the vehicle tuned by black bear performance. Wow, as good as the vehicke is running. Its running on a whole new level. I went with the economy tune. Have no use for high performace loud rpms. The torque convertor studded is gone. Shifting is buttery smooth. Acceleration on ramps is perfect. Doesnt feel like a 4 speed anymore. Couldnt be happier. The rpms have slightly lowered as well while maintaining speed. Actually find myself speeding more often by accident. Was great climbing hills no issue. Vehicle felt like i in brand new car. They have a black friday sale each year. I got mine before was $700. Now that i have the tuner box next tune is only $400. Worth every penny.
