Default Cruise turned off and door is unlocked?

Just like the title says, going down the road at 60 MPH.

Is that that switch in the shifter that tells it when it's in neutral and Park?

Don't quite understand? "Switch in the Shifter?" I have a 2009 Lux. No switch in the shift handle other then the button to press in to move it?

There's a transmission range sensor that communicates with either the BCM or ECM.

Went ahead and ordered a replacement.... 22 years old I might as well. Also ordered a new brake light switch. Those are known to cause cruise control issues.

But the transmission range sensor is what allows it to lock and unlock the doors when you go in and out of park....

I've never tried it, but something tells me if you're driving down the highway and hit the door unlock button the cruise control might shut off as a safety feature. Just a theory, haven't tested that out yet. I can't really think of anything else that these two things have in common.

Pulled over, shut it off. Restarted and went on my way. Cruise control was functioning and the doors stay locked. I think I have a gremlin on board.

I remember reading a post sometime ago, somebody had a loose wire going to that switch. It's down at the base of the shifter. Can't seem to find the post

Okay found it. And in that posting one of the wires was broken from the plug, and it would not come out of park.

I went ahead and ordered replacement plugs for when I go in it. Sounds like a common issue that can leave you stranded.

Figure while I was in there I'd go ahead and replace the shift interlock solenoid. AC Delco still available.... RockAuto

Ok ..Got You Now. In fact I am having on and off problems with engaging the the Cruise control. Most times it works and sometimes it won't go on. So maybe as you say it could be the brake light switch?

Also. a few years back I had got stuck in park. I think made a Post about that. It was the ground wire which broke off of that plug that trips the solenoid when you step on the brake which releases the shifter from park. I ordered a new connector which came with some super heavy duty lead wiring. There might be a service bulletin on that The problem is that as the shifter moves back and forth , the lead wires go back and forth with it which caused the Ground for the solenoid to brake keeping the shifter locked in park.

So I would look into ordering that connector with the heavy wiring. I also took advantage of that failure and wired in a foot switch that is on under or near the E brake foot pedal. It breaks the ground to that solenoid locking the shifter in Park. If someone shoves a gun in my face I trip that switch and beet feet from the 2 and let them figure out why it won't come out of park.

I also have a Tracking device which I can send a signal to from my phone to trip that switch and lock it in park.

Wow, I'm guessing you live in or near one of the big cities where local government is anti-American? We're about 75 miles SE from Portland Oregon, in the foothills of the Cascade mountains. Haven't actually been in Portland in about 10 years. I'd have to weld some steel mesh over the window glass, and probably some armor plating around the body. I hear the Seattle area is even worse. And a Hummer stands for everything they hate.

But yeah, that whole shift interlock, gear position indicator contraption in the center console looks to be a bad design overall. That is a good idea you came up with as an anti-theft/anti carjacking idea!

Yeah It works well. When I park I just move my left foot over and step on the little switch which has the little 1/4 Black button about flush with the floor. I have a red L.E.D. that comes on that is wedged in the A pillar weather stripping so I know its on. Of course you can test it my trying to pull the shifter out of gear. But in a dynamic situation you just want to get TF out of the rig. So speed is best. The perp.... can't see you do anything with your hands as your foot is dancing over to the button. L.O.L.

The best part is if the rig is taken...I know where it is by my phone track app and I can send a signal to trip the lock out with the push of a button. Here's a screenshot of the tracking. On the lower right are two buttons labeled ..outputs. #1 sends the signal to lock the shifter. Not Paranoid am I...LMAO

Replace the OEM brake light switch this morning. Couldn't find an ACDelco so trying a Standard SLS303.

I tend to dissect old parts to see what failed, if anything. Really surprised that even the OEM One just snaps together. The interesting thing is that switch makes five separate connections. Probably one for cruise control, one for brake lights, one for the shift interlock, and the other two I have no idea.

One for the ECM maybe? For the ABS?

Anyway that's replaced. Still waiting on a new harness that goes down the bottom of the shifter. So I'll probably take that next weekend.
