Each cigarette lighter plug in the vehicle operates off separate circuits and each has separate fuses in the fuse box... so to my understanding there is no easy way in the H2 to transition all of them to accessory power only. But you can target one and change that to accessory power. The text book answer would be to add a 12v automotive relay to the power line going to the target cigarette lighter, and trigger that with your accessory power line from your interior junction box.

Below is the standard automotive relay wiring approach:

  • Your cigarette lighter will have a wire harness with to wires: 12v Positive and ground
  • Disconnect the battery after marking all your positive wires
  • Cut the 12v positive wire and route it to pin 30 on the relay
  • Run a wire from pin 87 back to to the cigarette lighter harness connector -- ideally you patch into the existing wire harness connector
  • With that wiring, the Normally closed relay will not supply power, and the cigarette lighter will not function
  • Now the hard part - you need to run a wire from the accessory power trigger in your junction box under the steering wheel to this relay near the cigarette lighter you want to control. On the H2 08/09 it is here... where #7 is ignition power and #8 is accessory power. Not sure where this is on the 03-07 H2s... Use a voltmeter to find it.
  • Run a wire from there to the relay
  • Connect it to pin 86
  • Run a wire from pin 85 to the ground wire on the cigarette wire harness
  • Now test, and the cigarette lighter will only come on when the key has been turned to accessory power ON

Thanks. I was too lazy to research fuses for the outlets myself. Getting even lasier I believe that we have power management?
meaning that it’s supposed to sense current with key off like interior lights. Do you know if that includes cig outlets as well?
right now looking to add some interior lighting in the form of the small USB pills. Absolutely don’t want to have to unplug them all the time
truck Is not an every day driver

thanks again
