2026 Audio/Video update - subwoofer mystery
Recently acquired a low-mile 2005 H2 with a 'cheap and cheerful' aftermarket 7" head unit. The stock door and pillar speakers appear to be in fine condition, so we're going to run with those for now.
My eyesight isn't the best (far sighted) so I really need a larger screen. I sourced a top-end Sony ES head unit (XAV-9500ES) with a floating 10" screen. I chose the Sony because it has a *lot* of adjustability for the screen - so it won't interfere with the vents or AC controls. The ES line also has a class A/B output stage at 25wpc rms, which I anticipate will drive the stock speakers very cleanly at 2ohm. Using the new AXXESS AXTC-CL2 interface to marry the wiring harnesses.
The plan is to use the head unit amp for all full-range speakers and a separate new sub amp where the old Bose amp resided, reusing the stock sub enclosure with a new DVC 8". The Sony has twin mono sub line-outs. I'm not interested in boxes/fiberglass enclosures, under-seat components, etc., and I don't need to win any SPL competitions - I just want to fill out the lower freqs.
The missing link, after scouring forums and posts, is that it appears few care to access or reuse the stock sub enclosure. The most relevant info I have obtained to date is an exploded parts diagram and someone who *thinks you have to remove the glovebox and a side panel* but there are no pics or guidance. Does anyone have any insight? I would prefer to pull as few dash panels as possible, and more importantly, have a plan before I continue tearing the interior apart
. Thx in advance for any insight.
