Question 2006 H2 Engine REPLACEMENT

after 285000 MILES my mechanic has informed that my Vortec 6000 is going to be put to rest. Any suggestions on Replacement engines for 2006 H2 (NEW/ REBUILT/OTHER AFTER MARKET OPTIONS??) Appreciate any guidance. Wife want the H2 to go away, but I told her it will be my casket and she can bury me in it when the time comes!

I would buy a new one from GM, shop around and you can get a deal on them.

I think after 200,000 miles any LS is at risk for failure if the oil pump and pick up o ring have not been changed.

Forgive me for my lack of mechanical knowledge, but I know I have had a " valve tap" for last 2- 3 years. Last week lost all power as engine would just shut down. Mechanic did not go into detail but said it involves 2 cylinders on one side and one on the opposite side. It sounds as though to pull it apart and rebuild gets costly quickly versus investing a little more for a new engine.

I'd go with a reman crate engine and get a warranty if you're set on replacement. You can get a long block for under $3000.

"valve tap" is actually the lifters tapping due to formation of debris or lack of oil.
mine started to do that. last month, only at Idle. I check my oil every fill-up but checked again and the oil level was good. I added some sea foam to the engine oil and ran it and the lifter tick went away within a few days.

When I bought this H2 last June the first thing I did was change the oil and filter, I used Mobil 1 15K mile synthetic and a WIX filter. Almost a $60 oil change so I plan to keep in there for at least 12 months.
The H2 burned thru about 1/2 qt of oil in 6,000 miles. The oil still looks decent on the dipstick but I am sure it has help clean out the inside and I should have about 9.000 miles on it when I change it... maybe less now with our stay at home order.

I will probably average between 7,000 - 8,000 mile annually

I change oil every 5-6K. Sea foam never made a difference over the years for me. some times I would find a half quart down midway depending on mileage. I average 16-18K per year. Looking fwd to getting it back on the road again. I still think it is the best product GM has manufactured. will probably invest in remanufactured engine

What I find comical is the owner's manual and repair manual do not give a mileage interval. (they tell you all bout the transmission and other service intervals but not the engine oil)
They say change it when the computer tells you, OR at least annually if the computer does not alert you. Well mine said to change it at 4,500 miles.. I am using a high dollar synthetic oil and filter so that computer can pound sand.

I reset the oil timer ! 1,500 mile later I still got 68% oil life LOL !
