Shifting from H to L or to HL

When I shift from H to L, with the transmission in N, there is a grinding sound for about 1 sec. It doesn't shift very easily, with the engine off and the transmission in Neutral it shifts fine.

Is This Normal?

yes. It shouldn't do it every time but it frequently happens.
