H1 Duramax Swap
Hey guys, I know this topic has been a common one. I searched through the threads and seemed to find a lot on the H2.
I am looking to swap a 2001 h1. Couple questions. Is predator the leader in this area? Is the price they quote you actually the price? I have heard once they get the truck they start a bunch of add on items and it’s get to 60-70k. What is the reliability on a swap truck? Over all is it worth swapping or going back with the P400 6.5? I approx tell any advice! Sorry if this is a repeat. I did try to search around before posting.

Not sure there is a leader in DMAX swaps. Predator has done quite a few. They have people that are happy with them and people that aren't. Generally speaking people do not recover the cost of the swap when they go to sell, in fact many don't get much more than the base truck was worth. I don't know about the add on items but a well done swap will likely start at around $50K. To do a DMAX swap right you need to swap out the frame rails, lift the truck 2" and swap out all kinds of parts underneath the truck. Does your truck have the 12.1 half shafts, geared hubs, Etc.?
It's like USD 12 000 in parts, and then the job, I mean if it costs Predator USD 38 000 in labour and paint, then so be it. You have to trust the supplier. I expect somebody with the skills to be able to do a Duramax swap for about USD 22 000 + labour, you must remember you will need some tools and a shed to do the swap, for at least 30 hours, while doing this over the weekend you may get it in, but how about machining new brackets and all? I'm making my new brackets from good quality SS. When everything is picked apart, one would naturally swap out all old stuff, bushings, CTIS hose, brake pipes, breather hose, and so on. Stripall, metalization/zincing, epoxyprimer, powder coating, 3 - 7 layers depending on desired longevity. What it all boils down to is: Do you have the time to do it yourself?

I have an very nice well taken care of 08 LMM duramax. New top end on motor to include all the bells and whistles. A build transmission that can take more HP than I can ever make. I'm playing with the idea of finding an H1 and use my truck as a donor. Spent 10 years operating and working on Humvees in the military and really miss them. Is a Duramax swap kit really $12k ? Seem like alot for piping, a shaft, and a radiator.? I've swapped out at least 5 engines in my day, built a few cars and even one motorcycle. I feel confident I could work on a humvee, but is there a kit or build list out there easier to find and or pay for?
