The Tech2 configures itself to see the CANDI module on bootup, once configured it will work with any GM vehicle up to 2013, The H2 went to the High speed Can Bus in 2008 prior models used the slower bus configuration. I used my Tech 2 directly without the CANDI on my 05 and it worked fine. I would say once you start using it with the CANDI module there is really no reason not to just leave it connected with any gm product you might use it on.

Indeed does a Tech2 without Candi work on an 08/09?

some test might be able to be run but the tech 2 will let you know if it needs the candi module it will state so.
you can get a decent hardcase at harbor freight but i do not know if there is an equivalent to it over in Europe

Thanks bronxteck those cases look great, we have similar case suppliers here, but generally cost too much.

Think you're correct about Candi, these high speed modules might be the one that need :- AIr Suspension, BCM (has both) EBCM, Powertrain, FPCM, TCCM, TCM

all key stuff really, so perhaps the Candi module is a "must have"

Default A Few More Questions, If You All Don't Mind ?

I Really Appreciate All The Input You Guys Are Giving Me, I Looked At Unit With The Case And It Is Shown As $156.94 Canadian Dollars More With Free Delivery ???
Does Their Free Delivery Offer Mean To Anywhere The Purchase Is From ??
And It Appears That Both Units Come With The Candi Unit If I'm Correct ?
If I Want To Be Able To Do Any Or All Programming, Will That Then Require The Dell Laptop That Was Given As A Recommendation To Or The MDI Unit That Comes With A HDD And Software Installed.
I Just Want To Be Sure That I Am Not Buying Too Much, Yet, I'll Finally Be Able To Accurately Diagnose My Auto Charging System As Well As Any Until Now Seemingly Minor Issues Likes Cruise Control Occasionally Doing What It's Meant To Do.
I'm Done Giving My Money To Dealerships Only Want MONEY 💰💰.
Thanks For All Your Help So Far !!

when i purchased mine from the same company it said free shipping but then they told me that DHL did not ship to my location and had to pay almost 90$ usd on shipping.
both units do come with the candi unit just one has an overpriced case coming with it. but i did get the one with the case believing it was worth it or that i might be missing out on something special. that is not the case... the case also delayed shipment a bit.
an old plastic case from a power tool can be repurposed. same crap blow molded plastic.
for programming you will need a computer
as for tech 2 or mdi that is a decision you will have to choose upon.
the tech 2 is a mobile handheld unit that is self sufficient as a diagnostic tool "hand held scanner" and you can upload the programming either remotely (connect tech 2 to vehicle pull spi programming then go to your PC connect it load the programming into the tech 2 then reconnect to vehicle and program your module) or as a "passthrough" module similar to the MDI's function you will need the pc in the vehicle directly connected to the tech 2.
as for the MDI you have to always use a laptop since it uses an emulated tech 2 interface on the PC for all functions be it diagnostics or programming.

Default One Last Question (s) Please

Thank You Bronxteck,
I Will Order The Tech 2 Without Any Case, As I Have A Few Around That I Know I Can Make Work.
Was The Laptop That You Refered Me To, The One You Bought And Use For Any Programming Changes That You May Have Done Or Required To Do ?
The Reason I Ask Is That My New Laptop Runs On Windows 11 And Only Has One Video Port And Three USB Ports, As Well As No CD ROM Drive At All.
Has It Allowed You To Plug The Tech 2 Into That Laptop To Make Any Programming Changes Or Alterations And Then Reconnect The Tech 2 To Upload The Changes Without Needing To Buy An MDI Or VX Nano Or Should I Ask ( legerwn - Neal ) How He Does His Programming As He Has Both Units Plus His Tech 2 Analyzer.
I'm Not Trying To Cheap Out, I Simply Want To Be Sure That I'll Have The Right Components.

Apparently If I Order Greater Than
$299 Or More _ I Get Free Godiag J2534
$599 Or More _ I Get Free Godiag GT105
Not Sure Yet Which Is The Best Diagnostic Package ??
Or If It'll Make A Difference To Have GT105 Over J2534 ?

Any Final Thoughts To Help Me Decide Will Be Thankfully Noted Any Way I Can In The Future !
Regards,
Tony

i already owned a dell latitude D620 running XP so i just had to install the software to mine.
chinacardiag is offering the D630 which is a bit faster machine.
the tech 2 works better with a physical serial COM port connection on the PC. some USB to serial adapters can have issues. especially the counterfeit china serial adapters
yes i have used my tech 2 to program modules. as both remote pc and as passthrough. (bench flashing module)

Thank You Very Much bronxteck, That Told Me What I Needed To Know !
I Really Wish My Old XP Laptop Hadn't Died On Me, As I Used It For Programming My 2 Way Radios.
I Want To Be Able To Analyze Any Problems That My 08,
As Well As Programming If Needed Or Required !!
I Feel Better To Know That I'll Be Able To Diagnose And Solve My Vehicle Issues, Rather Than Being Charged Way Too Much By The Dealership As Always Happens !!

I Look Forward To Reporting Back, That I Have My Own GM Tech 2, And Have Finally Solved The Issues That Need Fixing Properly,

"laughing emoji face" ... I had to beg, argue and put down a deposit with my malware software to go to the chinacarddiags website.
