Default "me and my big mouth!"

if your'e old enuf to remember jackie gleason shooting off his mouth and later eating his words,,,well,,,let me eat some!

first, my defense, my thinking was tainted by;
1 hearing of race /drag cars running 4.56 and higher ratios.
2 my own experience with heavy duty ford/lincoln 9 inch rearends. they were often 2.5 or 2.75. they were driving smaller tires and driven by v8's 302 to 460 cu in. lots of torque.

i couldnt think(without thinking) that i was driving a 4.56 gear!!

so when my brain shut my mouth and started working,,,i measured my tires circumference, an easy to work with 100 inches.

there are 63360 inches in a mile so it takes 633.6 revs to go 1 mile.
at first i multiplied by 60 for 60 mph as a reference,then divided by the same 60 for rpm. back to 633.6 rpm in 1 mile at 60mph. multiply by 4.56 = 2889 rpm,,,!!!about right .

i try to prove it but in an automatic the rpm/speed change easily with road conditions. im sure a stick shift would read close to 3000rpm,(2889) so i eat my previous "big mouth" words.

i just could not think of 456 in a street machine!!

back to reading, with my mouth shut.
