The H3 is by far the safest vehicle I have ever owned. Id rather be in an H3 in an wreck than a Murano any day.
Maybe the heavier rigs in the test****ting a soild imovable object have more issues do to the weight.
They should do a head on crash test with the H3 and Nissan Murano and see what happens. Any bets?

The guy next to me at work mentioned it first thing when he came in yesterday - this was more to bust my chops, rather than to knock the H3 though.
Between my wife and myself we have an H3 and a Nissan Murano, and both appear to be safe cars after many miles of driving them. The Murano drives better on the road, but that is because it is basically a car on stilts, and the whole setup is designed for pavement, unlike the H3 which is more truck like in build. Everything is a trade of with autos - if you are going to be better in one capacity you may loose some capability in another. For example I would not even want to know what would happen to the Murano if I did some of the stuff offroad I have done to our H3. (For those who are wondering, it wouldn't be pretty.)
As for the news stations favoring a more green alternative . . . I can't vouch for the 2009 Murano, but our 2004 gets between 17 and 19 mpg on average, which I would still not consider spectacular.

Don't get too excited. H3 didn't fail, it got "acceptable" for front and side. Rear impact was "poor". This is compared to the top rating of "good". When Obama wins, all vehicles, regardless of performance, will earn a "participated" award because it has been found that competition makes some vehilces feel bad about themselves.
GM claims that it's poor rating has to do with headrest design. They refuse to design just for the 95th percentile crash test dummy, their design is a better compromise when all driver statures are considered. At any rate, H3 meets all Federal standards according to GM.
It also really wasn't quite clear from the reports on TV/news but H3's side impact score apparently was subjectively downgraded to acceptable because it's side airbags are optional and only cover the head area.

carcone- I posted the following on another thread in this forum, but I want to make sure you see it:
"Not only did it do well in the government crash tests, take a look at the Insurance Institute ratings:
http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=907
The Insurance Institute tests are supposedly tougher than the government's.
My wife was upset by that story until I showed her the IHHS and government ratings.
I can't _imagine_ why that news story, reported both on TV and in print, rated the H3 so poorly. Idiots!"
It's nice to see the media isn't letting FACTS get in the way of supporting their stories.

I seen another version this morning while getting ready for work. This time they really showed the H3 and ended the segment there. They showed the H3 crashing head on...and the reporter stated"The Hummer may look tough......but is not as tough as it looks"They had to get that last jab in[sm=wtf.gif]

Dam, really wish they would just give me the car instead of crashing it 15-20 times. I know it's for safety and all but after you've seen it in one wreck, do you really need to see it 5 more times?
Crash Tests aretests conductedin a controled enviorment, not real world. Which seems to be an elusive statement these days. Your H3 is a 2 1/2 "TON" vehicle. Compared to most vehicles its a Tank. Why are you are so worried about crash testing. Because I know I don't go and drive to crash my vehicle. All I know is this, if you have your seat belts on and you aren't text messaging, on the cell phone or playing with your PS2 while driving I wouldn't worry. It those idiots that do that while driving are the ones you need to watch out for.As far as the "Green thing" You can't change our behavior overnite and intillit becomes cheaper it isn't worth it.
