Well, I'm off to the dealer
Happy Birthday! Looks like wisdom has come with your advanced age

. Seriously, glad you can now make your truck your own. Alll the problems have been fixed, right? So the trade in wasn't necessary but it would've been nice?
Have fun with the toys! I just put my UCP on yesterday with Jdeorta's help - it was a beeyatch. Doesn't help if you have previously bent a crossmember while offroading. Holes not lining up, welding extra metal pieces on, drilling out new holes.
Can't wait to see your rig evolve. Glad you are alive, too!

Thank you patches. This year I would like to spend less time talking about off-roading and more time doing it, and now I can buy the necessary protection to make that possible.

Mike made a wise choice. After Breakfast we went into Schepel Hummer and I introduced him to my bud Calvin. Calvin tossed us the keys to the Alpha Mike picked out and off we went on a test drive! After that, he test drove the other 5 cylinder he had is eye on. Both were very awesome trucks. Calvin did his very best to "crunch" the numbers to ease the pain of the lease bu out but it just wasn't enough to get that payment where he needed it to be.
I have to say this, Mike's existing truck is really looking good since he toned down the chrome. I would say it now has a nice balance of chrome and stock "stuff" on it. Once he gets the underbody protection we'll get that on and he'll be ready to off road.
Mike, I hope, even though the outcome wasn't what you wanted, that the dealer experience was a good one and you'll be back when your ready again. I'm very proud to work there and would recommend buying and servicing there anytime. Everyone is very honest and take great pride in what they do and that's what has made them very successful.

Patience and reason prevail. Hoser.
Keep in mind HG, any accy you bolt on can be moved to the next truck when the numbers are much more doable.
May I suggest some REAL TIRES for old red!!! [sm=smiley20.gif]

I was afraid of that outcome Mike...that's the same damn thing that happened to me....and the mileage wasn't what killed you, I don't care what GM said. I put 8000 miles a year on mine and am WAYYYY under on mileage and was given the same song and dance. GM sucks about ending leases early...they always have. They will give you 6 months with no peneltys, after that everything gets rolled into the new truck...so in essance they are making interest on the amount rolled over from your last truck that already had interest calculated into it..it's a huge scam.
Good luck on your rebuild Mikey!!

Man, sorry that didn't work out for you like you hoped. But at least you
now know where you stand in the grand scheme of things.
A couple of questions though:
You were trying to get out early due to vehicle issues, correct?
How many months were left on the lease?
Once this lease is up, how hard will they hit you on the mileage/overage?
Will thatbe something you have to pay just to walk away from the thing?
Based on your experience, would you recommend leasing over buying?
(For me, it has never been an option. I'd blow the mileage allotment in 6 months)

Thanks to HummerMike for your help. As usual, you went out of your way for a fellow friend and Hummer Owner. You don't find too many people like that these days (well, except for me
)
Schepel Hummer's people are awesome. I'm not trying to advertise or anything but everybody there is so nice and cool to talk to. It's almost like hanging out with friends. They are always smiling, they never try to make you buy anything and the service guys kick ***
The COOLEST and most important thing is EVERY single employee is REQUIRED to take the Hummer off-roading certifications. Every person there, the service people, the techs, the sales people, etc. have all been to the Hummer training course, and every one of them has their certification on the wall next to them. These guys are really into their trucks. It's nice to have people to work with you that love what they do and love their cars.
And Mike (ImportKiller), the first thing I thought of was what you told me about the leasing situation. I actually went in there prepared for that based on what you told me, and also told Mike (HummerMike) about what you told me. Thanks for the advice. It made the shock less painful
Gunner: Here's some ansers lol
You were trying to get out early due to vehicle issues, correct?
Yes, but as we talked more yesterday, it sure seems like the dealer I bought it from (NOT Schepel) never properly inspected the truck from the beginning. The drivetrain problems ALL have one thing in common; they were always caused by low fluid levels. The transfer case, differential(s), transmission, etc. Looks like the factory may have goofed, and basically I had alot of stress on my drivetrain for a long time because things were never properly lubricated, and I even have warranty repairs in GM's system to substantiate that theory. So, maybe now things won't break anymore.
How many months were left on the lease?
20
Once this lease is up, how hard will they hit you on the mileage/overage?
The plan all along was to buy out the lease, and I have money saved up specifically for that. If I don't, it would be pretty steep, so worst case scenario, the new HX will be out right when my lease is up, so I can buy it out, trade it in and perhaps get the HX. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
Will thatbe something you have to pay just to walk away from the thing?
Yes, if you do not buy it out, you DO have to pay the added mileage, but usually if you purchase or lease another GM vehicle, GM will forgive the mileage from what I hear, if it's reasonable and not rediculous. I know a couple of people that did that, but as Mike/ImportKiller has mentioned, it's all in GM's hands and who you deal with.
Based on your experience, would you recommend leasing over buying?
Personally, no, because you are limited to what you can and can't do as far as mods and upgrades, but that hasn't stopped me because I had always planned to buy it out. Now if you area business owner, financially it makes sense as a tax write-off, assuming your payments are low enough. This year I'm getting my business license so I may be able to write it off as an expense next year.
(For me, it has never been an option. I'd blow the mileage allotment in 6 months)

Well, I'm literally about 20k over the lease limit for this time, so I'd owe like 4 or 5k just for my extra mileage just to hand it back to them and say thanks for the trouble? No way.
