Well, I'm off to the dealer
I hope so, he kind of has me concerned at this point. Not even worrying too much about the Hummer, He has way too many ways to get on here not to. Very unMike like.
ORIGINAL: importkiller
with his luck...he prolly got the alpha, on the way home his tranny blew....tried to call for help but his onstar was never activated and he had no cell phone signal....so he's walking from bumblefuk IL to the nearest payphone

I am very flatterred by everybody's interest in my quest, seriously. Thank you all.
Now, on to what happened (get a cup of coffee or something Bob and IK).....
I went out with Mike (HummerMike) to breakfast, trying not to get too excited. There were a group of kids there that loved our trucks.........
OK Whatever, I did NOT get anything
GM would not budge on the lease payoff, mostly because I had too many miles on it. I was already over my yearly alotted miles by about, oh, 20k
so they basically would let me get out of the lease and forgive the mileage but only if I paid the ENTIRE lease payoff amount which was $6900 or add it to my monthly payments, hence the payments below.
The deals I was getting were just incredible and I doubt I'll ever have another deal(s) come my way like that for a very long time, but basically what it comes down to is the payments would have been rediculous, at least to me, because of adding that extra $6900 to it. They would have went up from what my current payments were by about $200 more a month, and that's just for the normal '08 I wanted. The Alpha would have been about $300 to $400 more a month, so in total for each of the two I wanted, I would have been paying anywhere between $650 to $850 a month for a car payment, and I REALLY don't want to do that since I just re-fi'd my home and have some money to spare for myself for once.
So, instead of being an impulsive and irresponsible car buyer for once in my life, I respectfully said no, and that's that.
BUT, there is a silver lining to this story
I did strip all of the crap out of and off my car, so it's looking different now. My wife has been seeing pics of everybody's rig on here and is very supportive of me getting all the toys I've always wanted for it but didn't have the money for, like a GPS head unit (ie; the Pioneer AV3), real leather seats/covers, some big ole tires, backup cam, etc., so for once I'll actually be able to do with a vehicle what I want and not have any resistance.
Here's a little secret for you all.... I don't really like chrome
My wife wanted all that stuff when we first got the truck. I wanted the black out the entire truck and color-match the grill even before anybody was doing it.
I DID, however, order the underbody protection while I was there, and want to replace the side-steps with the rocker panels and detachable steps. I personally don't like side steps, but again, needed them for my wife get in and out. Guess she'll have to use the handle
I spent the entire freakin' afternoon after I left the dealer working on my sister-in-law's network at her business. Someone that doesn't know squat about the stuff totally hosed the entire thing so I had to rebuild it from scratch. I didn't get home until about 8 PM last night and then we had some family over so that's why this took me so long [:@]
Today is my 32nd Birthday. It would have been nice to have a new truck, but at least I will finally have the toys I want. I may not be around too much today because of this, but I have off tomorrow, so you better believe I'll be on here picking out my new toys.
This is only the beginning, and this time, my truck won't have chrome stick-ons and stupid decals.
Let the upgrading begin!!

Happy Birthday!!!!!
And congrats, HG - not on the new Alpha that didn't appear in your garage, but on being a responsible, rational adult in your decision process. Like he said, you may not always get what you want, but you get what you need.
Enjoy the modding spree ahead of you!

Thank you patches. This year I would like to spend less time talking about off-roading and more time doing it, and now I can buy the necessary protection to make that possible.
