Default ugly diy roof rack, ahh not so ugly,+ application

my single purpose, haul 4x8 dw/ply is not very attractive and i wasnt going to bother posting "ugly" pix, but i saw the "campsite shade thing" in forum pictures and the two might go together, the rack being the basis for the shade thing. so here it is,fbofw!
first the neat shade thing, then my ugly rack

I see. I thought the vertical plates on each side ran into the rail. now I see where you drilled through the long tubes and ran the carriage bolts there. nice work.

did you use pressure treated wood and stainless bolts/nuts? Also, any worries of tearing drywall on the exposed heads of the bolts??

Somebody has been busy. How many sheets can you stack on there?

bolt heads are smooth, see the early post pics. if i bolt the cross pieces down the heads should sink in also.
regular select 2x4,104 in cut to98 just to handle 96 inch stuff. could be longer but remember the roof channels are appx 60 inch max.
i dont keep it on and just made it to check the concept and in a pinch be able to get a few sheets. i wouldnt want to test it for max load!!

heres a look at bolts

oh it would be stiffer if the cross boards were bolted solid, for max load. now 4pm, i guess if you want a heavier load, add a few more bolts huh!! you could put 5 or six on each. i warn you,it does not slide in out ez as the bolts wiggle and jamb. if you leave the top nuts tight and just loosen the bottom, its worse! could grind the heads a little more flat i think
