Hi,
I was in the same situation as you up until 2 weeks ago when I bought a new 08 H3.
I have not owned a truck or SUV since 1989, having driven Mustangs, BMW's Porsches, S60R's, and 350Z since then.
I will be honest with you...I LOVE MY H3!
There is just something about a Hummer 3 and Hummer H3 that make youexcited.
IMHO, it is the most sturdy and strong vehicle I have ever owned, it actually has bumpers and you feel safe in it.
Moreover, its a fun vehicle!
You no longer fear snow, ice, rain, or getting stuck in mud, dirt, or sand.
However, that doesnt mean to drive like a maniac or unsafely...you still need common sense.
I was tossed between an H3 and an FJ Cruiser, but am glad I got the H3.
It seems to be more "modern" than teh FJ, albiet the FJ is a very nice vehicle too, but doesnot seem as strong or exciting.
Plus, you can get more for the money with an H3, with all the rebates and discounts on them.
It is odd the H3 has so many discounts just because of gas prices, as a manual FJ gets teh same mpg as a H3 Automatic.
I think its just a perception that american vehicles get worse mpg than the japanese.
I am getting 16.1 mpg city right now, which is 2 mpg over what the sticker says.
Thus, when I go on my big trip soon, I hope to get 20mpg, which is 2 mpg over the EPA hwy miles, just as I did with the city mpg.
In addition, if you check out this sites sponsors - G-Style and Hummer Parts Club, there are so many ways to customize your Hummer to your personal tastes.
My plan it look like a miniature version of a friend of mines H2.
So I will be adding hood handles, roof lights, custom rims and tires, chrome fuel cap, side bars, brush bar.
I already received the chrome fuel cap and the side bars are on their way.
Next on my list, is either a brush guard or back up camera.

Hey oingo guess what made the plunge today. got a great deal on a 06 superior blue awsome color. I,m stoked going on a ski trip next weekend I cant wait. As soon as i test drove it he had me hook line and sinker. I'm looking foreward to customizing mine too. I'm going for fuel cap, side steps, and the hard cover for the spare tire I like the chrome grill cover also. Unfortanely mine came bare bones, but I can't complain 13gs with 30 thou miles and its very clean. Hve fun with your new toy
There ya go! Good luck and enjoy!
You are interested in the same parts I am...
I got my side bars from HummerPartsClub they were the best out the door price.
I bought a chrome locking fuel cap instead of a fuel door, but in retrospect, I could have saved some money and just bought the locking black cap instead and used the money saved for something else...but oh well.
Need the tire cover as well, thinking about the $89 black one with "Hummer" in white letters.
Its amazing how the H3 makes driving thru snow exciting instead of frightening!
