Default Transmission rebuild price....what do you think???

So I just got a call back from the shop about my trans. Guy said the pump was completely destroyed. So in short the price is $2500 including tax. I've never got a trans rebuilt before, always just grabbed a trans from a wreck. So how does that price sound?? It includes:

Rebuild - $1285
R&R - $500
Fluid - $65

HD Pump (13 vane I think) - $299
HD Beast Sun-shell - $90
Upgraded Boost valve - $60
HD 2-4 Band - $25
Trans/transfer case seal -$14

You forgot about the sales tax that should be a little over a hundred + what type of warranty with it.

Did you check price for brand new transmission? From my experience I know that it could be more expensive to buy rebuild transmission versus to buy brand new one! It sounds like nonsense, but sometimes it's like that! I new, that one guy paid for his Saturn's VUE brand new transmission less than if he order rebuild one!
And new transmission coming, usually, with good warranty too, like Hum4Me mentioned. So try to ask about brand new one.

Does that include a new torque converter also?

The $2500 is including the tax already. It's like $2338 before tax. It does include the torque converter in the rebuild price of $1285. 1 year unlimited mile warranty is included.

He said a "new" or rebuilt from a factory is about $2400 in a coffin, doesnt include the R&R....yet they include a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty. Ive always experienced that if something is going to go wrong it's usually in the first couple months, or with my luck a year after the 3rd year is over. Monster Transmission wants $2200 for their HD build, then you need to buy a TC, $300 for returning the core, and then $500 for an R&R.

So sure I could go with a factory rebuild, and maybe down the road experience another failure, or have it built with the better internals that usually are the culprits behinds these transmissions. Has anyone every rebuilt their trans using the upgraded parts and really noticed a difference?

the price sounds about right. I had a 700R4 done a couple years ago and it was $1200 and I did the R&R and fluid myself

I would opt for the rebuilt at that price with the heavy duty parts.

Price it at another shop.

I do not know where you are, but that is a bit high here. It does also depend upon how much damage was done and how long you drove it while it was taking a dump.

There are at least two reputable shops ACDelco approved within 15 miles of me (NE of the D) that will do a complete rebuild using your old Torque Converter (if not damaged) for about $1600 OTD with a 90 day warranty.

The beast sun-shell is the way to go. If you trust the place, and it does need the pump, then it is what it is.

Did you ask for the price for used transmission? Sometimes it's possible to find one for relatively good price. But there is always risk to buy something already worn. it's sort of lottery! By the way, what mileage was on your transmission when it was completely destroyed?
