Default Tranny question....

Trans occasionally having issues shifting when on a slow down going back to accelerating, slight delay in getting back in gear. ( like slowing at a red light, then the light goes green and accelerating )

I was thinking of getting a better (?) trans..

Is there any other trans that are better and will bolt on?
Even something with slight mod, ( that a local trans shop should be blue to do )

Or should I just get it rebuilt? It’s got 65k on it ( previous owner must of beat the helll out of it )

Also I might add, I’m not looking to have to sell my soul to pay for it...

Lol, that ain’t asking for much.....

Assuming a 2003-2007 (I'm not sure on the 08/09 models) nothing else will work without spending quite a bit of extra $$$ for modifications and a custom flash loaded onto the ECU. That being said the 4L65E can be rebuilt with some pretty heavy duty aftermarket components. That and adding an aftermarket transmission cooler are the only easy upgrades.

Anything more, prepare your soul..... Even higher end rebuilds of the 4L65E we have can get up into a few grand while a very basic stock equivalent rebuilt trans can be had for as little as seven or eight hundred bucks (plus costs to install it).

If you are not hammering on it constantly the stock configuration will hold up pretty well. Supercharged or much of any other performance mods will probably warrant a heavier duty rebuild.

I do know the 4L80E can be swapped in but you are getting into a couple grand just in extra custom mounts, adapters, etc and a full custom ECU tune to make it work on top of the cost of the transmission. For the right money you can get just about any transmission to work including the Allison 6 speeds (will need a body lift to clear the height).

I don't know that your issues are necessarily from the transmission. The part throttle shifts are controlled by the ECM and the factory settings are pretty lame. Make sure you have no error codes first. If its really a big issue get a mail order tune or take it to a shop that can tune it for you. Mine was changed and it runs like a rocket ship now. I also had my trans rebuilt and it is absolutely bullet proof now.

Yea kinda wondering that too, have an issue with battery drain so for any long
terms of downtime ( I ride my motorcycle a lot in dry temps above 32 ) so I have a battery disconnect so it could be an issue caused by that too..

@ “MixManSC“ thanks for the input - Crap, wasn’t even thinking of the ECU..

Silly question, did you happen to try changing the fluid and filter?

The do a trans reset (aka trans adapt)...

Of course check for codes.

Normally any trans codes will pop up the old P0700 in the ECU

I got one from street smart Tasmanian transmissions. So fat is pretty good , even Towing a 4000pnd boat
It came with so be upgrades but is not a HD .
Also comes with a 3 years nationwide warranty
The guy from the transmission shop told me a HD may be an overkill for my truck since I dont do offroad or tow close/over limits

That was my first thing I am going to do, but as far as codes I kinda doubt it because sometimes the battery is disconnected for a week or two, in the summer I ride my KLR to work a lot, lol, actually I road it just to a couple of weeks ago. Now the other problem, I gotta find a shop here in the Detroit area that will do good work and not try and rape me JUST because it’s a Hummer.
Thanks

Hmmm, upgrades and a HD version lol my “pop-up” camper is just under 6k loaded out, being where we camp and it being a off road version ( lol it has better ground clearance than my H2 ) I do drag it down some two tracks and unimproved roads (rocks, deep sand, etc.) quite often. I’ll have to look into a HD version...
Thanks

Just check my post and the typos are amazing. Lol
I mean street smart transmission*. And so far* is pretty good lol

I still regrets I didn't got the HD but budget was tight . And the lead time to build it was 2 weeks . When I needed the truck fixed asap .
If you dont have it . Ad a tranny cooler to bypass the lines in the radiator . You will see a huge difference in temp .
