Default Toyota FJ vs Hummer H3 vs Jeep Rubicon

I am new to this site and its great. I am very impressed with the knowledge you all have out there.I look forward learning new things/ideas from each of you! So, what do you guys think? I'm a Hummer H3 guy, maybe a little bias. I've never seen a FJ offroad and sure they do well but how do they compare?I keep getting this question from friends/strangers a like. I also get questions compared to a Rubicon off road. My answer normally is, "You can go almost anywhere a Rubicon can go but as a Hummer owner you must be a better driver". What i mean is most Jeep owners can get away with taking poor lines and making poor decisions becuase they have the flex and front locker to make up for it. I will be interested in what you think!

I've only seen two FJs off road and they weren't doing anything very challenging. I know people who wheel with some FJ guys and they have generally positive things to say. A Jeep Rubicon is a very good off road vehicle. Having lockers gives it an advantage over non-Alpha H3s. The Alphas have rear lockers which will get you through most situations. After taking our H3 Alpha off road for the first time I have to say that I am very impressed with it and how it would compare to the Rubi. Tires and driver make a big difference but I would play follow the leader with a Rubi in the Alpha. There are many threads on this if you want to use the search function.

That all depends on what you are talking about. Stock off the floor configuration on all or mods? Stock off the floor I would have to probably list it as Rubi, H3, FJ. If all have equal equipment/mods and have drivers in all 3 with generally the same skill level, who knows.

Wow you can get a million different answers on this. It all depends on exactly what it is you want to do in the vehicle and many other factors (driver, situations, tires, etc). I came from another line of vehicles and still am partial to them also. I will say this and this is just about as factual as you can be. If you have not noticed, since I beenhere, I amusuallylets say am nonconfrontational but today I dont feel it. I have owned many vehicles and have experience off roading that I think I knowa tad. For pure off roading I think out of the three the Rubi has it covered. Doenst mean it blows the others away it means for going out and overall off roading I would go with it. It also deosnt mean that it cant or wont be beat in different portions either. But like I use to say to people when I wheeled another brand. 90 percent of the people that own these vehicles probably will never use them to their full capablility. That does not mean on this forum because obviously people here do wheel and use their vehicles. It means your average consumer. So under that premise I would get the Hummer by far, no comparison. I have wheeled and owned many vehicles, two on your list and others and they all are sort of comparible in one way. I really have not used my Hummerto its capabilities. I like the room, the ride, the sound and othere creature comforts the Rubi doesnt have. The FJ, I am sure if you went to one of their forums they would show you all this stuff to say the FJ isthe best.I actually only wheeled once with a FJ and it did fine. Same as Rubi owners and other brands. People are passionate about their vehicles and this isa HUMMER FORUM, so you are going to get HUMMER answers. And I would suggest if somone feels different they go to appropriate forum. So to answer your question I am fine with my H3 and one other opinion that seems to be probably never agreed with. Lockers are great and mean a ton but anyone that has ever wheeled hard before can also state that lockers are not the cure all and the everything. Because a vehicle is locked doesnt mean its going to out perform me. There are times lockers mean nothing. Like I heard a knowledgable member say here before, sometimes you dont need the viagra.

Driver ability has to be accounted for. Adv. Pkg. H3 have rear lockers and can handle anything you throw at it. What it lacks is the sway bar that the Jeep has. Having said that if you look at the Rubicon Trail H3s and Jeeps can tackle that trail without any problems. Haven't seen a FJ go thru there yet.

umm..no..it lacks the solid front axle that the rubi has...sway bar disco is nice too..but the solid front locked axle is the big thing here.

Fj Sucks...wite it down....frame it chisel it in stone...any brand that will not warrenty a cracked frame from simple wheeling is not to be considered a wheeling vehicle. It's a POS that only has the heritage of the name to fall back on.

Saw an FJ that was plowed in at a Toyota dealership that couldn't go anywhere...I still have to be stuck in my H3 or go to low 4 in it in the snow. I have been in the Jeep off-roading and it feels a lot like an H3 handling wise, but we didn't do anything spectacular. I really like the Rubicon, but I don't like the price and what you get for $30+k. I spent just over 30K on my 3 and have a lot more options.
