Towing update
After towing my boat three times now on a 170 round trip to the lake I am pretty impressed.
First off my boat is heavy, 22' Gambler bass boat with a 250 merc and a tandem axle trailer.
The ride is awesome with the boat in tow, the rear doesn't squat under the heavy tongue weight of the trailer at all. I think the rear lowered a total of 1-1 1/2", unlike my tahoe that lowed almost 4 ".
Highway drive is very smooth and not bad at all as far as maintaining speed. I only got below 70 mph once the entire trip and rarely had to stuff the pedal to make a pass or maintain 70+ mph. One time going up a big hill I went from 75 to 60mph with the pedal stuffed but it never fell below 60. Overall my mileage fell to 8 mpg but I'm sure keeping the speed around 60 would help....I just hate driving slow.
All in all I would give the lil H3 great marks for it's towing capabilities, the only downside I found is that my boat/trailer is about a foot each side wider than the H3 which made going through toll botths kinda interesting...to the NJ state Parkway authorities...I am truly sorry about that change basket I ripped off the toll booth...my bad....what did you expect me to stop cause a little guy came running out of the booth next to me...[sm=gears.gif]

RE: Towing update
No, My trailer has surge brakes with an electric reverse shut off. Your right though room is really limited inside the h3. Don't know if you want to cut into your h3 but I think you could probably fit it in the center console in front of the shifter, the newer models have some sort of a change well built in there, I think you should have enough room to cut an opening there and kinda slide your beake controller in there. Would look pretty slick if done right. Good luck and show pics when you find a place.

RE: Towing update
if your pulling a 5000 lb trailer, which is over the h3 towing rating or pretty damn close to it without trailer brakes then your just an accident waiting to happen. Rule of thumb is any trailer heavy enough to use a tandem axle trailer should be run with some sort of trailer brake system, be it surge or electric.
