Default Torsion Bars

Anyone know if there is a way to tell how farthe Torsion Bar has been turned? I'm having a problem with the height on the drive side, It's noticeably lower than the passenger side. I have tried to up the driver side and lower the passenger side, but with no luck it’s still lower. Anyone have any clues? When I’m adjusting them I have both wheels off the ground.

The only way you'll be able to tell how many turns your TB are cranked, is by counting how many threads are exposed on the adjusting bolts!!! I would recomend taking your truck to a alignment shop, and have them adjust everything for ya since you'll need an alignment anyhow after messing around with the TB's.I Hope that your frame isn't twisted or bent Luke.

Just to clarify I haven’t went offloading with it. I just pick it up yesterday. I had them put the 35†Toyo MTs straight from the dealership. So when I got home I got to work on the torsion bars and turned them both exactly 2.5 turns. Well that’s when I noticed it was way off. I’m talking on level ground or as level as I could find… I was a half inch higher from the fender to the top of the wheel on the passenger side. I was just under there and seen the threads. I’m going to go count them now and see to make sure. If they are the same amount of threads you really think I could have got something bend from the factory?

When you had the dealership put the tires on you should have had the dealership level your ride and adjust your torsion bars. When the T-bars are adjusted they will wear faster than normal, but having the dealership do it gives you a little blanket protection on your warrenty. That's what I'm planning on doing when my 33's wear out is switch to 35's and have the dealership level the vehicle and adjust the T-bars for me. (Already spoke to my service manager about it.)

Well it pulls a bit to the right. You think the Torsion bars would have anything to do with that?

A Half Inch... LOL I would't worry If It's only a half inch Luke. If you already turned them 2.5 turns then It's most likely that the new suspension hasn't settled yet to give you an accurate measurement, and that the surface your truck sits on isn't perfectly level, or the air pressure in your tires are not all equal... There's alot of factors involved here my friend!!! best for you to take your rig to a Alignment shop cause you changed your alignment by turning your TB's anyhow. Make sure you mention that you want ride height adjusted as well!!!

Sometimes Vehicles from factory may end up having a bent or twisted frame, due to the way that they have been delivered from factory, eitherby Train or semi trailer. Some of those guys cranked down their hold down chains so much that they'll bend the vehicles frame... It's Unlikely but agood possibility!!!

That is somewhat common on the H3. It's called the Hummer lean. The fuel tank is mounted on the driver side and depending on the amount of fuel in the tank you will have more or less lean. I adjusted my torsion bars before I installed the wheels and tires and I ended up with 4 turns on the driver side and 3.5 on the passenger. I want to say that I ended up with 27.5" from the ground to the inside of the fender lip. I don't know if that measurement is totallycorrect or not at the moment as I'm going from memory and it's written down out in the owners manual. What I do know is that when I did raise the front end I waited until the gas tank was down close to a 1/2 tank and I brought the front end up level side to side yet left it 3/4 of an inch lower than the rear. As far as front to rear height goes the 3/4" difference is not even noticeable and I didn't really want to crank the T-bars more than 4 turns. Hope this helps.

Ok well this is the numbers lol... I counted 23 threads on the driver side(lower side) and 27 turns on the passenger(higher side) So I turned them both the same amount... So they must have came wrong from the factory. I'm going to at least level them out to the same number then make my corrections from there. I'm not sure how many threads is the default... or how many are suppose to be showing from the factory.

Easiest thing to do is to mark them prior to you turning them. This will let you go back to the factory default. Put a white line on the bolt and the vehicle then count the # of turns you do.
