I never use 4 low in sand...don't understand why anyone would...in sand you want to use higher gears and higher speed to maintain forward momentum and to help you float on the top. Lower gears and speed mean your tires will dig in and cause you a very long day. Especially when using mud tires! Air down and keep her moving at a good speed and you should be fine.

I had issues in the sand dunes out at Armagosa Death Valley, NV, But not out at the other dunes around here in Vegas..........so depends on the SAND.....!
The pic of me jumping my H3 was at the Dunes in my profile.....I read a post on here that said if the traction light "failed" light came on it could be the transmission....I also get that light in 4 low...(not stablizer off light)..I am waiting for my tranny and head to blow....while under warranty....HOPEFULLY !

Hey hey Mr. Importedkiller: I had a little screamer 95 Jimmy that I had the motor crated up and back from JBA, Headers, Borla exhaust, 3" Superlift, underdrive pullys, Jacobs ignition [sm=icon_blah.gif]and that thing would run the sand in low 4lock like no body's business. A sleeper of sorts. Like a spider, it was light enough with 31 X 10.5" tires that it actually preferred low in the sand. [8D] However, your comment was as to a 3, so you are right on that part bro. [8D] I don't use low in the sand with my 3, and that sucker is heavy, more of a submarine than a spider.

submarine...lol...you got that right!
as to the traction control failed message, I have had this before and as did a lot of people here....everytime it was a loose plug at the t-case. I got a traction control failure, stabil sys failure, and a few other messages flashing when the plug came loose. Scared the crap out me when every damn message ever programmed from GM started flashing at once..I thought we were gonna explode

An H3 weighs about 1000 lbs more than a Wrangler and only has about 20 more HP so think about power to weight ratioagain.
My Jeep seems like a sports car compared to the H3.

At work I get to drive '03 H1's and 07 Rubicon Jeeps and I never have problems with them. Also no probs w/ 07 and 08 F-250's, even with crappy tires.

honestly as you can tell by my siggy I drive and wheel with both of them...but if I was big into running in sand I would have not bought either....give me a light 4x4 with a crap load of hp and tq and start spraying sand. the best car/truck I ever drove in sand was a modded to hell 4x4 VW baja buggy...that thing was sick in loose sand.
