Then you can worry that one side is in the sun and the other in the shade. Better wait until midnight to do it.

I run my coopers at 45psi. But sez it will take 65psi max. 50 was too bumpy with no load. 45 is good compromise and I get about 16mpg... at 35psi I was getting 11-12mpg

I kept getting a code when riding at 40psi at cold temperatures.

I run 295/70/18s and prefer my tire pressure to be in the 30-32 range on the street. I have ran them at 40 and 45, but the ride was stiff, and get the same fuel mileage

I have 295's and run them at 55. took it to Firestone where I bought the tire and they told me they go by whats on the door 35psi. WTF they are Primewell P100 with about 20k miles and have major cupping. Originally they told me the issue was running the pressure to low at 35psi. Im confused, but will keep it at around 45, thanks for the suggestion.

Hawaiian, your tires are cupped in the middle because that is way too much air pressure. My first off road vehicle I kept around 50 or 60 and did the same thing you did. When you fill them that high, especially larger tires they balloon out in the middle of the tread, therefore that being the only part touching pavement it gets worn first. We just got over 50.000 miles on our last set of 285's and we keep our tires between 32 and 35 on the road.

Cupping would look like wear on alternating tread blocks on one edge or the other of the tire. That indicates worn components or mis-alignment. Even wear on the outside edges is from under pressure, overpressure is wear down the middle of the tire. Make a chalk stripe across the face of the tread and drive a few yards to see how it wears off, should be even from edge to edge. Being a HUMMER, mud also works. ;D

Sorry Hawaiian. RSC is right. I always think of tires worn in the middle of the tread as being cupped. That's what I thought you meant, that they were worn in the middle. Are you referring to cupping or being worn down the middle of the tread?

It goes away temporarily not because your tires heat up. This is a myth, pressure changes at the most 4 psi from road heat. Your trucks tpms is programed to reset itself after a couple km of driving. And to answer your question about reseting, if you have keyless entry. Just turn your key forward and hold lock and unlock at the same time. Horn will sound. Then starting with drivers front and moving clockwise start letting air out of the tires. May need to remove valve cores to speed process. Continue around vehicle until all four tires sound your horn. When finished you will hear two honks. Then air up to desired pressure.

HUM3LE, does that process include the spare tire as well when walking clockwise around the truck?
