Thinking about a H2
Hi Everybody.
I have been thinking about a hummer H2 for a while as a replacement for my VW Touareg V8. The VW is quite expensive to maintain and I am here to learn what the H2 is all about and I am curious to find out how they hold up when the miles get a little higher.
Are they comparable with a tahoe?

Yes I understand it is not a Tahoe, but lots of parts can be interchanged with a tahoe and 3/4 ton 6.0 engines right?
Is the tranny hummer specifiek or the same as a 3/4 pickup?
I am trying to get a feel on maintenance cost. The VW is outrageous
Dealer cost on a new set of brakes on the touareg is $2100.
DIY is $600
Glad to hear it is dependable.
Does the h2 run on 87 octane?. VW likes the 91 stuff.
So my fuel cost on the VW with 14mpg on 91 is about the same compared to 11mpg on 87 on the hummer.

The biggest downside is how bad it is on gas & of course the haters. I average 10.8 mpg & get my ***** busted by co workers for owning a Hummer however I am still glad with the choice I made. I love my H2! Good luck whatever you chose.
Did a test drive in the first hummer yesterday. A 2005 with 68k
I was impressed, kids loved it, wife thought it was so so (meaning too big
)
However 99% of the time it is me driving in mine anyway.
Only on long trips she will take the wheel once in a while.
What should one pay for such a vehicle? It is pretty much loaded and in excellent shape?

Vehicle maintenance is going to be high on any vehicle any more. I recently replaced air bags and ball joints on my H2 and it was nearly 3 grand to have the dealer do it. The hummer isn't really an economical vehicle. They are however a blast to drive. I initially set out to get an suv and was looking at the qx56 drove it for almost a week but just wasn't feeling it. I was coming back from home depot and was driving past the hummers on a dealership lot and thought hey I should see what those drive like seeing as how they are going out of business and won't be around much longer. I didn't even make it out of the parking lot in the H2 test drive before I knew that's what I wanted.
Yes and it is a blast to drive and pretty nimble. It keeps up with a stock hummer going off road (air suspension raises the car if needed)
However maintaining costs a pretty penny. Half the car is a porsche.
Dealer charges $2100 for a new set of brakes for example.
I do not believe hummer brakes are that expensive.
However I have had the VW for over 5 years and always liked the hummer.
The king of the road feeling, the looks and what an american car is all about
