Default Tailgate tyre carrier - Big Swivel Joint

Does anyone know how this joint comes apart?


I've removed the lower screw an grease-nipple but it only come out so far the hits a stop.


Any info much appreciated.

That is a might big hammer you used to pound that out. Is that all that allow people to own for a hammer there in the the UK nowadays? Just kidding... lol Sure do not want to get into politics on here. Good to see how that comes apart for when one needs to really clean it out.

A hammer is the limit of my technical skills - it fixes everything!


Just to note for anyone who may need it.


The swivel joint is quite a precision fit. The lower half is lined with phospor-bronze or brass bearings, the whole assembly is filled with grease, at the top there is a rubber seal to prevent water ingress. The shaft is made from "treated" steel (blackened like CNC tooling) with a groove in the bottom end, the retaining bolt sits in the groove to prevent the shaft coming out.



My seal is badly worn and I've no-idea where to get a replacement, I might just use an O-Ring and see how it goes.
