Default Switching steering wheel controls

I was thinking of trying to change the pinout of the steering wheel harness. The seek button on the right is kind of pointless when the prog button is what I use most often, and hte phone button once I get the bluestar module. So I want to make the seek up/down be the prog/answer phone buttons, and put seek over where the prog/answer buttons are. Has anyone done this by chance?

Haven't heard of anyone doing this in all my years on the various H2 forums. I think it would be more of a programming thing as opposed to changing pins.

Well..... good timing. I have a steering wheel I just bought that I have not yet installed. I've also pulled the button pods out so I can change the tiny bulbs in the to red.

I'll get some pics of how its all setup for you in the morning. I'm not sure yet if they are all independent wiring or not yet. It might be a two or three wire resistance based setup. I'll know in the morning for sure when I open the pods up. They just pry out of their holes in the wheel - actually pretty easy but there is not much wire to work with at all.

Actually someone else already took pics....

The Official L.E.D. How To Guide - How To - SilveradoSS.com

Ours (at least on 2003 - 2006) are the same. I just check and mine look identical. The two larger button pods are indeed resistor based. You can see the different value SMD resistors on the board. The two smaller pods do not have any resistors.

From the pictures htey look independent. My right hand is always on hte steering wheel, and is used to the volume/presets over there from 12 years with ford. Also seek doesn't work very well with XM. I'm guessing it will be easier to swap where it goes into the clockspring. I'll be looking for your pictures. Thanks.

I did not take any really. The one in the link (The Official L.E.D. Guide) in my last post are really all there is to see....

With the larger button pods using resistors to determine their function you would just about have to open each button pod and change around the resistors to change their functions.
