Default Sudden alternator noise in rear speakers

Had a sudden alternator whine happen while cruising down the highway tonight in my 06 H2 and turning the radio off fixed it while driving. Brought it into my shop to start troubleshooting and when I started it back up to bring it into my garage the sound was gone. I checked all the wires and grounds for continuity and the alternator checked out perfectly. Not sure what else it could be but shutting down the vehicle seemed to temporarily "fix" the problem. Any advice as to what this phantom problem could be would be greatly appreciated.

Listen for bearing noise or whine in the alternator with a piece of tubing. Just replaced mine for the same thing, bearing noise was horrendous when they showed me at the shop I went to. Was there for broken manifold studs, and they heard it. I figured I just needed a noise suppressor for the Best Buy installed unit. Since yours is intermittent (one time so far) it's probably not the alternator, but worth a listen anyway. Somehow the whine and noise was coming thru the speakers. Bizarro...

A while back I had the exact same thing happen a few time, like you said turning the radio off killed the noise. Were you listening to the radio or a CD?

I put the problem down to damp conditions as this seemed to be the common factor, I was listening to the radio at the time.

Unfortunately I never resolved it before I upgraded the stock radio to a Pioneer system and the fault seems to have gone away. This suggests a radio connection fault or possibly the aerial ground.

Please post your solution if you find one, good luck!
